Are there symptoms with recurrence?

Hi everyone,

I was dx with stage 1a ovca in July and I didn't have to undergo chemo.  I do go in every three months for checks.  Lately, I have been having abdominal pain again and it has me wondering if there are any symptoms that go along with recurrence?   If there aren't symptoms..how effective are the three month checks in finding a recurrence?  Also...I am still extremely fatigued every single day.  My surgery (TABHSO) was three months ago.  I realize most of you had chemo following your surgery which I am sure wiped you out even further.  I was just curious if it is normal to be this exhausted from just the surgery?  Thanks for you responses!  I have been having a hard time lately!

Hi Jan,

I will be praying for you.  I am very sorry to hear you have to go through more chemo.  I am also sorry to hear about your mom...I do feel very blessed to have it caught early.  I did have a gyn/onc do my surgery but initially they thought I was atleast a 1c and possibly a 3c.  Turns out...I also had endometriomas which were the cause of the fluid in my abdomen and other tumors.  My path report talks about an area "suspicious for peritoneal implant" but all my nodes and washings came back benign so I was staged at 1a.  I still kind of wonder though.....it was all very strange.  In the process of waiting for the official dx...I went through all of the gut sinking feelings of "what next."  I will be praying for you to go into remission and to have strength to endure your next treatment.  Thanks for your kind advice and willingness to encourage me even though I know you must be going through a hard time right now.  Hugs & prayers your way!

Fever seems to be very common but it is still not an "accepted" symptom.  I am so sorry you have to go through this at such a young age.  My mom died when she was 38 of OVCA but that was in 1964 when they could do absolutely nothing.  You may not feel lucky but you are one of the few who caught it early.  I just found out for sure today that I have to go through chemo again so I am still in the numb stage.  I am a fighter so I will be okay.  God has a plan for us all.  I am just hoping that his plan and mine are the same.  Thanks for asking.  Make sure your Dr stays on top of this, become a chemist to watch your diet, get mild exercise and watch lots of comedies.

Hi,

Yes, my CA-125 was 61 prior to surgery.  I am 37 and did have a TABHSO which put me into menopause.  It is interesting you mention about the fever because I had a fever prior to surgery and also think it was related. I am going to try the yoga...the body aches are what slows me down the most.  How are you doing now?  Thanks for the post.

Everyone is different and yes surgery can really take it out of you.  Are you having a ca125 with each checkup?  Was that a good indicator for you? There are symptoms of recurrence, but I think they are different for everyone.  I had 3c, finished chemo in april, went for 6 mth checkup and it was back.  I knew it was back when i had a fever for 2 weeks with no other symptoms of a cold or flu.  They say a fever isn't an accepted symptom because not everyone gets it but it sure is for me.  I don't know how old you are or if surgery put you into menopause.  What is a TABHSO?  Try to do some mild yoga or tai chi and it should help with the body aches.
