Ovarian Cysts

Hello,

I recently went to my GP because I had a very long period. He sent me for a Ultrasound which showed a normal uterus wtih a 4 mil endo strip, no fibroids and bilaterial ovarian cysts 5.9 cm on the right and 5.5 on the left which the radiologist thought looked Hemorhagich or were endmometriomas. GP sent me to Gynocologist who recommended another Ultersound in 5-6 weeks. I went for that on Oct. 4th (mid cycle for me). That report came back 13.1 endo strip with a 1.3cm fibroid and a heterogness area near the fundus and recommended a uterine biopsy. The cysts were still there about the same size but the radiologist called them simple (no septations) but suggested they were mucinious cysts. Still waiting on the biopsy results. My questions are can a mucinous cyst be a simple cysts and how concerned should I be about the thicker uterine lining etc. The Gyn suggested laproscopic surgery to remove the cysts if the uterine biopsy comes back normal - if it doesn't then probably a hysterectomy for me! I happened about this forum in my search for information and you guys are great!

Thank you!

Hello again - I just received the results for the Endometrium biopsey. Normal (yeah!) So, now I have to decide when to schedule the Laprascopic surgery to remove the cysts. I'm really very nervous about doing this. I've never had surgery in my life. My Dr. thought there was no great rush to remove these and I was wondering if I'm crazy to wait until after the holidays. Your opinions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

You are most correct, the waiting is the worst.

I can't really address the uterus, however I think it thickens as you go through a cycle, I don't know if it started out thick to begin with.  The cysts they describe are typically benign, simple cysts.  They generally remove cysts at 5cm and above.  If you have any concerns you could always go to a Gyn/Onc for a second opinion, I say this not because I believe it is something but because they have additional education in the treatment of women's disorders.  All the best to you, keep us posted.
