Pain

Hi Dr. Goodman,
My Mom is recurring in the peritoneam along the capsul of the liver and spleen.  She also has a solid galstone that has to be removed but must wait until chemo is over.  Last time galstone was giving her pain was last year.  Today she is having very bad pains around that area.  I know the galstone is near the liver so it would be hard for her to tell where that pain is comming from, but  its bad enough to where only perkoset (sp?) is helping.  Its a sharp pain, in your opinion, what would you say that pain is.  Is it cancer progressing?  She just started topotecan last Friday.  I am so worried about this and its driving me crazy, I had to even call out of work today.  I know her doctor will not tell anything except that we have to wait for another CT scan.

thank you so much
Fiana

Dear Fiana
I am so sorry for your stress. It is so hard to see someone you love go through pain and suffering.

Sharp pain can definitely be from the gallstone.
As long as she does not have a fever, shortness of breath, or vomiting, I would recommend pain medication, heating pads, nice warm tub baths.
Thanks for keeping in touch
best wishes
