Questions about ovca spread to breasts

Hi all,  I need to call upon all your expertise once again.  Ashley had her mamogram today as well as her pelvic ultrasound.  I will learn the official results of the scans tomarrow.  The scary thing that happened today that brings up the question was that her mamogram turned out to be more suspicious than what the cat scan showed six weeks ago.  The doctors felt the need to do a needle biopsy on the mass in her left breast.  This would lead me to believe that things have changed for the negative since the cat scan six weeks ago.  I am starting to be very nervous of the situation.  So the question is, how common is ovca to spread to breast?  Has anyone had this occur?  I have heard of mets to liver, kidney, brain, lung, etc...but not much (that I remember anyway) of mets to breasts from ovca.  When I know the results of the scans (tomarrow) I will post to all.  The biopsy will take 2 days for results, so when that is in I will also post the results.

Thanks in advance for your response,
Bob

Went to have my eyes checked last month and the eye doctor told me that women with OC should have their eyes checked on a regular basis as it can spread to the eyes as well...Also had a mamogram done the month before that cause I was concerned about it possibly spreading to the breast...In Ashley's case, I hope that it's not OC or any other kind of cancer and that her results come back negative...Sending her positive energy

Just wondering if her doctor has considered putting her on Tamoxifen or Femara.  Both are drugs typically used for breast cancer patients after chemotherapy is complete.  However, they have been been showing some success in stabalizing OvCa, and more doctors are starting to prescribe them to OvCa patients.  They will also help to protect against breast cancer.  There may be side effects from her type of cancer I don't know about, but it might be worth a shot to talk to her doctor about it. I started Femara yesterday.  It is my doctor's hope (and mine, as well) that it will help stabalize my recurrence, as well as help protect against breast cancer.

Best wishes to Ashley, and you, too.  Hoping and praying for good news!

rmarie is right, if you are BRCA1 or BRCA2, the chances of breast cancer goes up....even if the 'Ovarian' cancer does not metastasize to the breasts.

In general, ovarian cancer spreads in a specific order (typically) (metastasizes).  This starts in the ovaries, to the bowel, lymph nodes, lungs/kidney/liver, then to the brain.

The lymphatic system is the primary way it travels but also through the blood.  The one thing about cancer is it is both predictable and unpredictable at the same time.  It does what it wants and adapts, unfortunatley.

Don't really know what to say, except that I will keep Ashley in my prayers... she's too young for all of this.
Please let us know the results when you can,
Becky

I am BRCA2 positive.  It's important to remember that only10% ov ovarian cancer is hereditary.  Having this gene puts you at high risk for both OVCA and breast cancer.

A core biopsy showed that ovarian cancer had spread to the lymph node in the breast. Then it was decided that is how it spread to the brain. But cancer can spread by the bloodstream also, not just lymph nodes.

The chemo killed it in the lymph node (Carbo/Taxol) so I didn't have to do anything. Thank God.

Let's pray that Ashley is OK. Scare or not, she does not need this at all.

I'll be praying for good news.

Hello Bob,

In March I found a lump right before my yearly mamogram, so I had a mamogram and ultasound and my ovarian cancer had spread to my left breast.  They did a biopsy and then tested the cell to see if it was ovarian or breast cancer.  I also want to let you know I had the gene testing done and I do not have either of the BRCA 1 or BRCa 2 gene.  My oncologist said I probable have the BRCA 2 gene because I have ovarian cancer, but now they don't know what to think now.  She also told me if you have the BRCA 1 gene your chances of getting breast goes up to something like 80 percent.  My gyn oncolgist said it doesn't matter who you are you can still get ovarian cancer they don't know yet why some women get and some don't.  I believe it is stress related, air we breath and food we eat.   Good luck my thoughts and prayer are with you and Ashley.

I don't really want to be the one to write this, but yes there is a link between OC and breast cancer.  There are 2 gene types BRCA 1 AND 2 that, I believe, put the person with either cancer at greater risk for the other.  Ashley could be tested.  That being said, they probably are being very cautious with Ashley because of her history. I am truly praying that everything is alright.  Keep us posted
