Radiation as recurrent OVCA option

Radiation as recurrent OVCA option

Hi all,
I was just told that my mom's retroperitoneal tumor is increasing in size. She is on Gemzar (Carboplatin and Taxol had no effect on this recurrence), and was doing well for 4 months.  Her oncologist wants her to consult a radiation specialist.  Research I have done online suggest radiation is not often considered for recurrence with mets to lymph nodes (and possibly bones - the proverbial jury is still out on that).  Anybody have any experience with radiation for recurrent OVCA?

Gratefully,
Joanna in NH

I have had two lots of radiation with my recurrent OVCA.  OVCA is responsive to radiation generally but as it tends to spread and seed throughout the abdomen it is difficult to get all tumours.

My radiation has been more of a palliative therapy by radiating parts that were causing problems it has alleviated symptoms and pain.  My feelings are that for me anyway it has been productive and was a treatment that caused few side effects.  It isn't a 'cure' as such.
