I have one kidney and my doctor wants to treat me with Gemzar and Cisplatin; I am concerned about the kidney damage. How often should my kindney function be checked and what is a safeSafe driving for teens Safe sex number of treatments with my condition. I have had 9 treatments of carboplatin and taxol and have not gone into recession.
I'm not sure there is a specific answer to your question. I think your doctor should know how important it is to check your kidney function, and probably will do it more often that he/she would on a patient with both kidneys. If the numbers start looking bad, then you'll have to discuss what to do next. I would ask the doc at every opportunity how your kidney function looks to make she he/she is checking regularly. Be sure to voice your concern to your doctor, too. How are your blood counts responding?
Best wishes to you, and hoping you find remission with the new treatment!
