Yes...it's going to be more of combinations and/or frequency. For instance:
- Weekly Carbo (or platinum based) can still work on platinum resistant people like yourself
- Phenoxodiol trial (Phase III) for platinum resistance. Uses a modified version of the soy isoflavone to cheomsensitize platinum resistant ovca (regular soy isoflavone genestein does this too but not fda approved of course).
- Eloxatin is good, and has shown results with Doxil...but you said you are not good with that one (side effects?). Works kinda similar to Taxol, but not really.
You are smart to be careful of side effects...being on Avastin does increase your risk of perforation of the intestines.
Good luck...I know sometimes people have been on other combinations or drugs and I hope they give you andyour onc some ideas!
Terrin,
I am not real sure about any new drugs, but there are still a lot out there that you can try. As far as side effects, as you know, each drug has its own. Some do happen to be a little milder than others but only for some people. If you recall, many of us have been affected differently by the same drug. One thing I have learned though is that if one of the side effects is complete hair loss, that will usually happen. Unfortunately, there are several that cause hair loss.
Other than the drugs that you have been on, I have been on gemzar, abraxane with the avastin, and am now on oral etoposide.
You might sit down and talk with your Dr to see if he has any ideas as to what he might be considering next. Since each chemo only seems to work just a short while for me, that is something I always want to know very early on.
Whatever they put you on, I hope it will work better than some of the others.
Chris
You mentioned that platinum based drugs can still work on people who are platinum resistant. Have you seen studies that bring you to that conclusion or what?
