What is the cause of a high sed rate

I am a 75 year old women and just received the results of my blood work with a sed rate of 57 and the norm is supposed to be 30. what can be the cause?

My rheumatologist also uses the sed rate to follow my arthritic spine disease.

Hi, usually when you have a high sed rate that shows that you have inflammation, I have RA on top of several other health problems and my Rheumy keeps a close eye on my sed rate.
