I'm sorry your mother (and you) are dealing with this.
I had an early stage of ovarian cancer, and my doctor promised me a cure. I had a total hysterectomy and six rounds of chemo. It's been seven years, and I'm fine -- and the doctor believes that will continue. It really depends on the stage, the type of tumor, and, I suppose, a little luck.
You need to consult with the doctor to see what the long term holds for your mother. Make sure the doctor knows that the chemo is hard for her; there are things they can do to make the treatments less unpleasant.
Good luck to you!
Ovarian cancer is a chronic disease, the doctors don't talk about a patient being cured. They talk about stabilizing the disease, and killing the cancer cells that are currently in the patient's body.
You should make an appointment for you and your Mom to sit down and discuss all your questions with her oncologist. Make a list of your questions so that you don't forget any.
Good luck to your dear Mom, it's a very hard diagnosis to be given. I wish her well with her chemotherapy.
