Complex Ovarian Cyst

I just recently was diagnosed with complex ovarian cysts on both ovaries. Ultrasound showed 2 cm complex cysts in right paraovarian distribution, and 14 mm complex on left ovary. Both ovaries are abnormal.  I had a total hysterectomy at age 40, both ovaries remained.  I'm scared out of my mind that this could be cancer.  I took the CA-125 test but was told that wasn't a very good indicator.  Does anyone have any info they can share with me or similar symptoms.  The cyst was discovered 3 months ago and I was never notified by my dr. They haven't gone away and I really don't want to wait any longer.  Help if you can.  Thank you.

Actually the dr. that dropped the ball was my primary.  The GYN is new.  I got my CA-125 results today they were 7, but the GYN said that test isn't always accurate.  Because of my age, 47, having the ovaries removed, I feel, is my best option.  That is really the only way I'll get a real diagnosis on what these cysts are made of.  A little more history, I've been a diabetic for 36 years and had 5 vessel by-pass 3 years ago.  I have no family history of Cancer in my immediate family, but the thought that they just take the cysts and leave the ovaries seems crazy.  Why leave them if they can cause additional problems later down the line.  Does that sound feasible?  I'm still pretty scared.  I've had IBS for years and the symptoms are so similar.  So now when I get the bloating and pain I don't know if it's the IBS or the ovaries. Thanks for listening.

I do not know what Dr. Goodman will say, however I will say, find a new Dr.  This one did not contact you with results of a test, that were abnormal, you don't need him or her.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Dear Maria,
It is reasonable to consider removing your ovaries if you have pain and persistent cysts. since your ultrasound was three months ago, before making any plans it is reasonable to repeat the ultrasound and see if anything has changed in  3months.

you should also know that there is some data to suggest an increase risk of cardiac disease with removal of the ovaries. it is important to weigh those risks and benefits when you think about removing the ovaries. now of course, if the ovaries are abnormal, you should have them out
best wishes
