chemo first!

by beaxx, Apr 10, 2004 12:00AM
I posted to you 2 months ago when my sister was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.i read up as much as poss, looking for hope.she was told at the onset that she had cancer in both ovaries, pelvis, chest, neck lump and stomach lump (all this from mri scans etc)she is just about to have 3rd chemo, then re assesed and either more chemo or surgery.Am I right in thinking that her cancer is  advanced and the chemo is intended to shrink tumours in the hope that an operation can follow? Also, is it likely that the chemo will shrink some tumours but not all. i ask this because my sisters belly has gone down,so has the lump in her neck, she does still have a nasty cough and is now losing weight quite fast, she was told she had probably had it for atleast 2 years before final diagnosis.how can the cancer be staged, without operation first?does there come a point when the chemo stops working, and then what. many thanks
