Well, there is research on this:
1) platinum resistant patients are not truely 'done' with platinum based agents. Research a few years ago show that weekly carboplatnim WORKED on platinum resistant patients (ovca).
2) Phenoxodiol is an experimental treatment (based off, no less, a longstanding supplement....genestein which is from SOY) that makes platinum resistant cells sensitive again. In-fact, you could almost do the same thing at home with fermented soy suppelments containing high levels of genestein...the only difference with phenoxodiol is they tweaked it a little bit to make it more powerful...that's it.
I knew they were either beginning or ending phase III trials here in the U.S....you may still be able to get on it.
Hi There,
Women who suffer from platinum resistant ovarian will face a very tough problem. Frequently cancer cells that are resistant to be killed by platinum all have some cross resistance to other chemo agents. The agents that your mother has received are all appropriate chemo drugs.
There are a few other drugs:
cytoxan
hexamethylmelamine
navelbine
etoposide
tamoxifen
arimidex
It is important to think of what is appropriate within the overall context of how your mother is ****. If she has an excellent performance status, Pushing her with other chemo makes sense. If she is very ill and has compromise to some of her organs such as bowel obstruction or renal failure, this may be a time to consider stopping chemo
I am sorry for the suffering that your mother and your family is experiencing
take care
