CT Shows No Right Ovary After Car Wreck

I got into a car wreck June 3 2010.  I was the passenger. I had a very bad laseration from 2" above my left eyebrow to 2" into my hair line.  I broke for ribs on the left side.  I had a CT at the emergency room and they said I needed to see my gynocologest; because I have a cyst on my left ovary.  I went to my normal doctor today and he said the CT shows no right ovary; but looks like remenants of it and he was surprised they did not tell me this in the ER.  I wanted to know if it is possible that the ovary was ripped loose and is hidding behind another organ so it is not visible on the CT.  I have been feeling like something is flooting in my abdomine ever sense the wreck; but I thought it was just because I was so bruised from the seat belt and air bag.  Any answer?

What you are feeling might be the cyst they found especially if it is fluid filled. Definitely see a gyn and take all other info with a grain of salt for now since all this data is coming from people that are not experts on gyn issues. An ultrasound exam may find the missing ovary.  Maybe inflammation from seat belt trauma is distorting images. Doctors really get it wrong sometimes. I hope all your injuries heal fully and that you get better information from a gynecologist. Best wishes!

Wow!  So sorry to hear about your car wreck!  If you have never had abdominal surgery...that seems suspect to me.  It is possible to be born with only one ovary, but with it showing remants...that seems really strange!  A MRI shows ovarian tissue better so you may want to request one.  Perhaps your gyn will have more insight into this matter.  Personally, I have never heard of an ovary being ripped away.  Yikes...the thought of it is chilling!  I am glad you are OK.  Good luck to you!
