I was wondering if anyone could give me some input to my recent ultrasound results. I am 43 and have been having pre-menopausal symptoms for over a year now. My periods have been worse the older I have gotten and recently i have been experiencing abdominal pain. During my recent yearly physical I explained to my doctor what has been going on and she sent me for some ultrasounds. My test results from my ultrasound are kind of confusing to me since I do not understand alot of medical terminology. Here are what the results were:
Pelvic Ultrasound:
High-resolution real-time examination of the pelvis was performed transabdominally and transvaginally. The uterus is within nomral limits for size measuring 9.8 x 4.7 x 6.4 cm. The endometrium is homogeneous, but enlarged measuring 1.3 cm. There is a hypoechoic small uterine fibroid at the posterior fundal aspect of the uterus measuring 7 x 9 x 6 mm.
The right ovary is normal in apperance measuring 2.8 x 2.2 x 2.8 cm. Of note, the right ovary is immobile by manipulation with the probe. There is a small amount of free fluid around the right ovary, which demonstrates normal Doppler arterial and venous flow.
The left ovary is normal in apperance measuring 1.6 x 1.4 x 1/4 cm. Small amount of left periovarian free fluid is also seen. Normal arterial and venous flow is seen within the left ovary.
Impression:
The endometrium is enlarged, but may be related to the phase of the patient's menstrual cycle. Endometrial hyperplasia, polyp for carcinoma may have this apperance and clinical correlation is recommended. Ultrasound follow-up in approximately 6 weeks may be performed, if clinically indicated. Small uterine fibroid.
To note I have had 2 healthy prenancies: One c-section done in October of 1986 and Natural birth done in March 1988. I had to have LEEP surgery back in 2003 due to Pre-Cancer of the Cervix and been having good paps ever since. I have never really had any problems until recently. My family history is horrible: (My grandmother-Cancer of the Uterus, My mother-Fibroid Cysts, one Aunt Colon Cancer and another Fibroid cyst as well) all of them had to have a hysterectomy. My mother was close to my age and so was my grandmother when this happenedI have never had any problems until now. Any input you could provide would be most appreciated!
Thanks and God Bless,
Evonne
