20 years of prison

I started going to a methadone clinic for opiate addiction about 3 months ago. During my counsel sessions I was told I am suffering from PTSD. I have spent 20 years in prison and even before that was in boys school, plus had a really bad childhood. I have been out of prison for almost 3 years now but it is hard for me to do anything. I never want to leave my house for anything because I think I might do something stupid and end up back in prison. I don't work, don't do anything except go to my clinic but even then I make my wife take me so I won't be able to do anything else. I don't know anything about PTSD or how to get help for it. I have no insurance and no job.  Do you have any suggestions on what I might be able to do for help? This is really driving me bonkers and I have to get it to stop. I am getting deeper and deeper in debt and am so stressed out I am losing sleep. Now I am also stresing over what I am reading about how hard it is to get off the methadone when it comes time tomtaper. AFrom what I hear it is going to be pure hell. Can you tell me anything about that also?

As far as getting off meth, you might want to get help on the substance abuse forum here. Also trying to intigrate yourself back into society after 20 in prison will be tough.Check out what your county has to offer and ck out a 10 step program, or turn to a local church pastor for possible resources. The longer you do nothing, the worse it will ge Good luck.t.

You came here to medHelp to ask others I call that a step forward, how about you start from here now you are talking about your problem. The fact you are going to a clinic tells me you are on the road to a slow recovery, well done,Now sometimes we have to make our selves do things that cause us anxiety, it would make you feel good if you ventured out , how about a stroll to the stores or to go to the movies some good ones out there now.One tip I do know about is that you have to switch off those thoughts especially the negative ones, distract your self when you find you are thinking down on your self, get positive tell your self you are going to get a life, when those obsessive thoughts crop up say to your self okay I will think of this for 5 mins ,do that then let go, say No More. Stop thinking about your life and get on with your life, when you have more self esteem you will want to get a job how about you come here and tell us what you are good at and the kind of job you want to get, then go for it.  Come back with more, we care.
