How long before treatment starts to work?

I have just been through a week of intensive trauma therapy and i feel just as bad now as when i started. I had to stay away from home for the week as my therapist was afraid how i would react. They say it will take time for my mind to process the trauma and that talking about it helps bring it to the surface and then i need to process the memories.
From next week its back to one day a week therapy, but i just wondered does anyone know how long it should be before i feel any benefit from the therapy. My therapist said it will be a long process but i just wonder how long.
The symptoms have a big impact on my life i am so depressed and detached from everything and i find it hard to concentrate on anything. Nightmares are also a big problem. Anyone know how long it takes?

Thanks, he is trained in PTSD  but i am very therapy resistant i find it hard to trust people even my therapist, although he is a great support. Somedays i can cope ok other days when i wake up i could scream i don't know what to do, i go from being ok to very depressed and suicidal in a short time. I am trying but its very hard, i am trying to open up more to my therapist but its taking time. I am currently in a residental place because i was feeling very suicidal  on Friday and i went away on my own for a while, then my partner came looking for me, i got home for the day as i have a family and they wanted to see me, its ok there its better then the hospital i have been there before too.
Thanks again.

also, anti-anxiety meds are made to take the edge off. if the medicine you take makes you 'zombified' your doctor will change the med or change the dosage. you should be able to take it, but still be able to function in your daily life.

if, in time, your therapy still isn't working for you, you might also consider a new therapist who specializes in PTSD. my therapist is working on my PTSD but, we're not quite on that topic yet because of other more pressing matters.  also, medication + therapy can work wonders while in sync. since PTSD has high anxiety as a factor, you might talk to your doctor about an anti-anxiety med. it might be trial and error, but there is something out there that will work for anyone.  i've tried Ativan, that didn't work. now i'm on Xanax .5 mg 4 times a day. it's TOtally working for me! i don't feel like i'm gonna blast through the roof or bang my head against the wall (to pass out) to get some relief.

i hope i was able to help you. and God speed on your recovery :)

Thats alot i am hoping to do it without medication, i have taken medication in the past for post natal depression, and it worked quite well i was able to stop them and life was ok for a while. Has your PTSD got better in time or just stayed the same. My therapist told me that PTSD wouldn't go away if i didn't get the therapy for it, but the therapy doesn't seem to be working. I guess i need to give it more time.

Did you recieve therapy or medication for the ptsd? I'm not sure i want to be like this forever. I have had many traumatic things happen to me throughout my life and then the most recent one made everything else i had been keeping under control come out as well. I am hoping this works as i don't take medication.
