BuddyBuddy....this thread is seven months old.  Sorry but I doubt the poster is still active in our community.

If you have a comment for him I suggest that you send him a PM. He may be monitoring his Profile Page.

If you are going to come off them, I agree with Tuck about checking out the Substance Abuse Forum.  There are MANY people on there who are not substance abusers but who, for one reason or another, have decided (or their doctor decided) to get off narcotics.  There's a load of support there as well as suggestions of how to ease withdrawal.  Like Tuck said, nothing takes withdrawal away completely but you can ease symptoms.

I know a lot of people (and doctors) recommend Suboxone.  Personally, I won't take it.  I would do LOADS of research before going that route.  There's a lot of controversy over it.  Some say no more than 21 days on it.  Others have horrendous withdrawal stories.  Whatever you decide to do make sure you know what you're getting into.

Best of luck and hope you keep everyone posted.

Is that doctor a jerk or what?! That was nothing short of cruelty. Maybe we should treat him the same way and then he would defineately have a whole different perspective!!!!!  It makes me so angry that we have to be interrogated, treated likegarbage and made to suffer all because of the bad apples. I only take 10 mg.of percocet 2 x  per day so I have no way of relating to that amount or how devastated you are.  Cruel joke if you ask me. I hope a worse condition befalls this doctor just long enough for him to really "get it".

Welcome Yogi to our Pain Management Forum.

I assume your physician had a reason for prescribing the Percocets. Is your pain resolved? Or is your PCP just not willing to prescribe narcotics for you any longer? Do you have chronic pain?

Do you agree with your physicians decision? Do you feel that you no longer require narcotics to manage your pain?....Or again do you do you still have pain?  If so have you considered requesting a consult to a Pain Management Physician?

If pain is no longer an issue than please discuss detox with your physician instead of going cold turkey. There are medications, herbs and such that will make your transition easier. I would hope that your PCP is willing to ease you through this...please talk to him/her again. Nothing takes it completely away.  Once you are on Suboxone than you will eventually have to come off from those also.

If nothing else your physician may refer you to a one that has more training in this area. Another thought is to call Humana and request the name of a physician that may help you. Sometimes they can be guide you.

And finally you may also want to post on our Substance Abuse Forum. They are have much more information on this subject than we do. Please don't think I am insinuating that you have a abuse issue...I am not. I just know that they can provide you with more personal information.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. I will look forward to your updates with interest.

Good Luck and Take Care,
~Tuck

Did the doctor give you a reason?   It would help to know so that we could help you figure out what sort of doc you need.  Maybe call up Humana and see if there is another doctor that you can see on your HMO?
