20 something year's, Still no "real" diagnosis, or relief from pain...

Please, Can someone help me? First of all, This leg pain I'm referring to started some 20 something year's ago, And has only gotten "worse" over the year's. As of lately, I've kinda thought it might be RLS, But then again, With the pain I'm experiencing, I don't know, It's pretty bad, Believe me. It seems to come on "Mostly" at night though, And yet, It also can start in at most any time of the day. It also seems to start up, After eating certain food's, Mostly those containing sugar, Candy, Pop, Food's w/ sugar... Caffeine is really bad for it....  Ice cream, etc... Also, Anytime I ride in a car, Especially a car that ride's "rough", This really seem's to make it "worse'...  Or going for "long" ride's, Either way, It really make's this pain "Kick in"... As for the pain itself, It's kinda hard to describe, But for the most part, Its a "Burning Sensation, Followed by "INTENSE" Jerking, Twitcing, etc...  It get's so bad, I finally have to get up, And pace the floor's for sometime's; "Hour's on end", It's terrible, Believe me. Finally, I just fall over from exaustion, Or end up taking pain med's until the pain goes away, Or I pass out from shear exaustion...
As for med's, Well, Let's see, I've been on sooooo many; Neurontin, Which did seem to work for awhile, But then just stopped altogether, I don't know... Soma, Codeine, Soma w/ cod. Darvon/cet... All the hydrocodone, Oxycodone, and all the codone's you can think of... But I've since graduated from all that, Oh yeah, Nowaday's, It's morphine, Diladid, Methadone, Well, You get the idea... Thing is, I am sick and tired of being on all this stuff, And just want to figure out what it is thats causing the problem to begin with, So I can maybe get to the bottom of what's going on with me, And stop with the "Throwing pain pill's at the problem", (They don't solve anything) They only mask the real problem at hand.. I also suffer with Primary lymphedemia, (In my leg's) although I do not believe this has anything to do with my leg pain, But who know's...  Anyqway, I've been to countless doctor's, Neurologist, you name it, I've probably been to them, To the point, That I'm at the end of my rope, I don't know, It's as if noone really has any answer's for me, What do I do now?  Perhap's someone out there, Somebody on this webbsite has experienced what I'm talking about here, And can perhap's give me some insight to this problem, I sure hope so, Because seriously, I don't know how much more of this I can take.  Oh yeah, I've also tried the "Magnisium, And it did'nt really seem to help, Although I was told that I probably  did'nt take it as long as I should have. (Am in the process of trying the "Magnisium" again, To see what happen's... I've also been to a couple "Sleep study specialist's", Although they did'nt really seem to have any answer's for me either...   Anyway, As I've said, I just prey someone out there can maybe help me with this proble, Perhap's provide a little insight for me, I'd sure appreciate anything at all at this point, Believe me....  Thank's so much, And will be looking to hear from you....

Welcome to MH babygoat. You will find support and caring members here such as sweet Mollyrae. I'm glad you found us. We all will offer our suggestions. I am so sorry you have leg pain. It is brutal and I know the feeling.

And yes I agree it could be food allergies, esp because you associate your pain with foods. Does it always happen when you eat those foods? If you eliminate them from your diet does the pain stop or greatly reduce? If it does than the answer is simple; research those foods and eliminate them from your diet. But is any thing that simple when you have such pain?

I had undiagnoised leg pain, much like you describe for about 15 years, with no pain medication to ease it because no one could find anything wrong.I also had pain in my buttocks but that didn't really present itself initially. (They thought I was faking it or just crazy.) Than I stumbled on a doctor of osteopathy (DO) and she found the cause on the first visit. I have SI Joint Dysfunction. They is no "cure" for it but at least I know what I have. It is difficult to DX, often missed because true SIJ Dysfunction is rare, especially to the severity that I have it.

So it could be a number of things as I am sure you know or a combination of issues. And if they do find the cause will they treat it any differently? In my case it only meant that at last I had a DX and received meds to ease the pain. I also have "manipulations" from the DO that helps me a bit on some days.

Dear heart hang in there. We all know what pain is like and I hope you find some comfort in the fact that you are not alone. When you need to vent, chat or ask questions we are here for you. Take care and please keep us posted.

Hello Babygoat and welcome to MH. I am sorry to hear of the pain you have had for so long. Has the Doctor ever mentioned the possibility of food allergies? I know it sounds far fetched for leg pain but leg pain can be a symptom of a "masked" food allergy.

A food allergy is the body's response through the immune system, to a food when it reacts to it as a foriegn or toxic like corn, wheat, dairy ( a real culprit) and even sugary foods. Believe it or not, RLS (restless leg syndrome) and general leg pain has been associated with allergies.

Vitamin E and warm water therapy are both a good source for relieving some of the leg issues your having, especially muscle tension and leg twitching.

I wish I had more advise to offer you. Pain makes life hard. Good luck your issues and I hope relief is around the corner.
