Can i get my percocet perscription filled 3days early?

Hi anyones impute would be appreciated. I am on percocet 5/325. I'm on the maximum dose, 12tablets a day. I get a new prescription every 2weeks, I'm getting my prescription on wednesday, but my last prescription she gave me 32 extra pills, should I still be able to get the regular prescription filled on wednesday, or will they refuse because I still have 32 pills left?

I agree with Jaybay, That's how my insurance and pharmacy works. But some pharmacy's will fill it for you after getting an approval over the phone by your doctor. The catch is, if it's too early by the directions on the bottle your insurance may not pay for it and you will have to pay out of pocket. For instance, if you have 200 in a bottle, and the directions say take one every 2 hours, then that would mean you should have only taken 168 pills in 2 weeks. Or take 2 every 4 hours, you would get the same thing. 168 pills in 2 weeks. This must be what is going on with you. The insurance knows that you should have some left if you are only taking them as directed. But like I said, you may be able to fill them early if the pharmacy can get an approval for it over the phone by your doctor, but you will probably have to pay out of pocket.

Read the prescribing directions on the bottle and take it as prescribed.  It may be a two-week supply or a one-month supply depending on how it was written.  Do the math and you'll know how long it's supposed to last.

Perhaps she has added the extra 2 pills onto both prescriptions in case you need the extra? that's the only thing that makes sense to me. That or in case for whatever reason you can't get in to see her when you are due.  Like namnam & I said just be careful.  She may be testing you as well.  Giving you the extra pills on top of the regular prescription to see if you are filling it every 2 weeks.  Next time you go in to see her just mention it to her.

Good luck

I think my doctor gave me the extra's on purpose, she has been very busy and hard to get in touch with lately, I went in to see her almost 2weeks ago, she gave me one prescription for that day, and it had the 32pills extra on it, she also gave me another prescription that is post dated for tomorrow, it also has 32 extra on it. So the best I can figure is that she didn't want me to run out. But I'm just concerned if the pharmacy will fill it on the date of the prescription or will I have to wait the 2-3days. I don't have a problem waiting, it just makes things more difficult, I wish she hadn't even given me the extra's!

Hi littlelady,

What Melissa just told you is true.  The Pharmacy and the Doctor's are in CLOSE contact with each other.  If it's an error - it WON'T go unnoticed for long.  In fact your INSURANCE may be the one that catches it before anyone else as they may not approve your refill and tell the pharmacy the soonest that you can refill it.  This happens more often than not.  Just be careful.  :)

I'm wondering if you were given the extra pills to carry you through the Holidays because your Doctor's office was going to be closed.  If you are like me I have to have a hard copy of the prescription to get my medication since this is a schedule II narcotic.  Do you have to pick it up at the Doctor's office or did they give you the hard copy ahead of time when you were in last time because of the holidays? Did your Doctor give you the 32 extra pills on purpose or was it a mistake?

I wish you the very best - just be careful!!!  Let us know how it works out......Sherry

Thanks very much, ya I have no idea why she gave me the extra pills, its very odd, I didn't notice till I left her office, but I don't want to get in trouble for anything, I might just wait till I run out to get if filled, it just makes things more complicated.

If there were 32 extra pills released to you it's doubtful that they'll fill the prescription on Wednesday.  Then again they may because the prescription states every 2 weeks.  Why did she give you the extra pills with the last prescription?  Generally the pharmacy would see that in a certain time frame you were given X number of pills & supposed to take 12 a day so they'll see that there should be some left & won't fill it, but I guess you'll never know until you try.  The worst that will happen is the pharmacy will tell you they can't because of the extra 3 days meds you have & hold the prescription until Saturday instead.  At best they'll fill it.  BE CAREFUL THOUGH !!! Eventually either the pharmacy or your DR will see the extra pills when cleaning up paper work & may ask questions.  EVERY TIME you fill a prescription a copy of that prescription is sent from the pharmacy back to the doctor to show when & where you had it filled.

Not sure any of what I've written will help you. There's no harm in trying to fill it Wednesday.
