Causes for swelling

I have been having a swelling of the left ankle and foot since several years now. The swelling is more pronounced in summer. To add to my woes I have a spur in the left foot. My last blood test revealed Uric acid was a little high. I have since been taking medication to reduce that but the swelling is persisting. Can anyone tell me if the swelling on the left foot only is caused by uric acid levels or should I be looking for any other causes,Also how can I get relief from the spur?
Thanks
Renu

I've been having swelling of my left foot since last summer.  It started off slight and I chalked it up to the heat.  Then it got worse recently.  My fiance kept telling me it was sugar.  I was drinking a lot of white grape juice, orange juice and coke.  I didn't think I was drinking that much.  I have a doctor's appointment for it next week.  Two weeks ago I just stopped drinking so much ... swelling's gone.  Go figure.  Not sure if it's that for me for sure or if it has anything to do with you ... do you use a lot of sugar ... either natural or added?  Oh, and I had no pain with mine.  Do you have pain?
