Coming off Oxycodone

I am disabled Vietnam veteran, on 5 mg. Oxycodone- 6 pills per day- for almost 5 years. I am now on my 4th day plus 22 hours of no Oxy. pills and I feel like crap! I am  also prescribed 2 mg Loaraepam daily by the VA so I break a pill into half and that helps my withdrawls. How long will I feel so bad? I never get a cold and I have had flu sypmtons since yesterday, ie, weak mucles, runny nose.

I'm starting detox on Sunday when my current supply runs out. I want my life back. We're probably close in age if you're a Viet Nam Vet. I've been on Vicodin about 80mg/day for over a year. I'm not looking forward to next week but I took the week off from work to withdraw. I know it will be very rough. I did it before about 15 years ago. I'm scared but full of hope. L-tyrosine and vitamin B6 are supposed to be helpful. I'm stocking up. Clonidine is also supposed to be helpful. Hard time withdrawal should only take 3-5 days but feeling crappy may last longer. Hang in there Stan997 - there's a light at the end of detox!

I do scheduled, tapered detox's about every nine months to "reset" my body's tolerance to oxy.  My psychiatrist told me to add additional doses of valium (I take 1 - 5mg pill at bedtime regularly).  Have you experienced any gastointestinal issues?  In addition to feeling crappy like I had the flu I also get the runs - so I stock up on OTC Immodium.  Only one time did I have to do a non-tapered detox and it was not fun at all. Felt like crap for 10 days. Hope you feel better soon.

The muscles and runny nose, aches pain, fever, legs hurting, diarrhea etc are all withdrawal symptoms and most likely will last for anywhere from a week to two-just depending on how long your body takes to completely go thru detox-there is no set time as everyone is different some have worse withdrawals on lower amounts and some have minimal symptoms on a higher dose but everyone will go thru it.

If you can to stop them contact the prescribing dr(as I dont know the situation if you ran out early or doc stopped prescribing etc)If you are ok pain wise and not interested in resuming the med I wouldnt bother as you are most likely thru the worst of it resuming the med will stop the symptoms but if you run out again/dr doesnt script be aware it will occur with every med stop.

Take care, take it easy, drink lots of fluids, hot baths and I hope you feel better soon.
