@tragicallytwisted ...I have been trying to find my way back to this particular thread for a while now. Just wanted to let you know that ever since I read your post some months ago, the concentrating and breathing deeply has worked WONDERS for me. I honestly believe that your theory is pretty darn accurate...LOL. I have been on oxycodone for over 4years now for a back injury and severe nerve damage from bad surgery, and this hiccup thing was absolute torture. Have always been told I was crazy and was just a coincidence. I too am bad about the twitching/jerking almost IMMEDIATELY after falling asleep. Anyway to sum it all up...end the rambling..lol. Thanks for the advice! It works : )
I have this happen randomly, from percocet & Opana ER...it drives me insane, because one on my chronic pain problems is in my ribcage, post-surgical nerve damage --& the hiccups are agonizing, & exacerbate the chronic pain for which I'm taking the meds.....! This thread is a relief, & I'm going to show it to all those people who swear I'm nuts (I am, but not about this one thing).
I checked the sites that you posted; looks like we're just the lucky few...Dandy. I wish my luck was so good when buying lottery tix.
Seems like everyone's effective remedy if different. The only one which works for me is drinking out of the back side of a glass, 15 swallows without breathing. Oh-- & one other weirdie: one friend can sit facing me, gently take my earlobes in his fingertips for about 2 minutes, in complete silence, & they go away. Not only that; they do NOT come back for up to 6 weeks. No clue why this works, nobody else can do it. Unfortunately, he's moving halfway around the world. Next time I hic I'll have to go Down Under.
My husband just had rotator cuff surgery for the second time. Just like last time he now has the hiccups and can not get rid of them. We have decided it must be from the pain meds. Nice to know others have the same problem, but sure wish there was something that he could take to stop them. Each time he hiccups it hurts his shoulder. Last time he had the surgery we tried every method listed to get rid of them and nothing worked.
I have the same issue. and a theory to go with it. some doctors believe that fetus get the hickups to exercise the muscles that help us breath so they will be ready for that first breath. they also say that the reason we sometimes jurk as we fall asleep is because our brain senses our heart rate blood flow and breathing slowing thinks the body could be dying and is trying to wait it up. all the drugs mentioned slow your breathing. they are respiratory depressents. what if our body are simply trying to make sure we are breathing well? Next time i get the hiccups on my meds Im going to try breathing deeper and focusing on breathing normal to test my theory

When I was younger I used to pop pills like crazy. I just called them high-cups. They'd last for like 10-20 minutes, and they were painful. Especially while trying to smoke a cigarette.
