Do I have Carpall Tunnel?

I have been experiencing excruciating pain in my hands when I wake up. Mainly around my thumb area. The pain has been on-and-off though, never really consistent. Recently I have had pain running from my wrist to my elbow. It hurts especially when I extend my hand backwards. There is a lump that has formed in the crease of my elbow and I am not sure if that is related. It almost feels like a swollen blood vessel underneath a muscle. Not too sure though. I have had a history of typing and making pizza. Could that be the source of this? Please help.

What you describe COULD be CTS.  It could also be tendinitis.  It's always best to check with your doctor.

I had CTS in both hands after many years as a data entry clerk.  I have successful and easy surgery on both hands for the CTS and have not had any reoccurences of the problem for over 15 years.

If bending your wrist to the extreme in either direction causes a tingling in your fingers, it is most likely CTS.  This is one of the "tests" that my ortho did.  I also had pain that shot up to my elbow and had aching and pain when I even held a magazine to read.  It always seemed worse at night, in my case.

Let us know what your doctor says.  If you have to have surgery, it's a quick fix and instant relief.  Today's surgery is very simple and very quick.

Good luck to you, Heather
