HELP

My husband whom I left to a percocet addiction recently received a Tylenol with Codeine prescription for his "BACK PAIN". Shouldn't he not have this narcotic due to his severe addiction to oxycodone? I need some help and answers as my 3 children go on visitation with him and I thought he was CLEAN :(

Hi Liz,

Welcome to the Pain Management forum at Medhelp. Yes you may check with the substance abuse forum but you question is fairly easy.

If you husband has a narcotic addiction that would include codeine. However his drug of choice is probably percocet (oxycodone). Codeine is not nearly as strong as oxycodone and I assume his PCP is aware of his problems with oxycodone. Indeed it would take many codeine to compare to one oxycodone. His PCP may have prescribed him only enough for several days. If his physician felt he required the drug for pain he may be cutting him some slack.

I have a friend that can handle hydrocodone without a problem but he can't handle percocet. He may be rare but it appears to be true for him.

I would make frequent calls to my children while they were with daddy to check on their well being if you are concerned. Good luck to you, Tuck.
