Have to go to URGENT CARE for tramadol, but DR. couldnt prescribe my regular dosage, withdrawl

i no longer have medicaid, and i cannot afford to go to doctor. Im 20 years old and i was in a close to death car wreck 3 years ago and ended up almost in a wheelchair. I suffered from chronic and really horrible back pain from the wreck, and i also have minor scoliosus. I have been taking Tramadol, (Ultram) 50MG 5X a day. I moved recently from NC to FL and the doctors down here are horrible. My brother has paid for a couple doctor visits for me but it was useless since the doctor would not prescribe my meds. So i had to go to URGENT CARE, which thank god he would prescribe my Tramadol. However, Urgent Care can only prescribe a certain amount, such as 65 Tramadol a month, when it used to be 100-120 a month. I would have to go to PAIN MANAGEMENT. which I cannot afford. and my brother is also on it for his back pain, and the doc wouldnt prescribe it to him. (but someone did at URGENT CARE)
so, now i have 2 more days till im out of tramadol, and im already suffering withdrawl symptoms because im not taking my regular dosage, and 2 weeks too early to get my refill for the 65 prescribed to me.
CAN anyone PLEASE give me some information, or recommend something to help? im in so much pain already and nothing is helping. Doctors here in FL have dont care for younger ones, since they accuse us of abusing. Im scared and upset, i do have a job and it requires using my back of course.

Tramadol is NOT an opiate/opioid narcotic pain medication but works in a somewhat similar manner to that group. Ask your physician about prescribing you Ibuprophen 600mg. or the 800mg. tablets which are both effective and potent pain relievers. There appears to be a belief by many that Tramadol is both a narcotic and as addicting as narcotics, neither is true.

Hello and Welcome to MedHelp's Pain Management Forum. I am very sorry to hear about your situation.

I have recently relocated to FL. In my opinion PCPs are afraid to prescribe anything close to an opiate. I am told this has even had an effect on many of the PMPs.

New FL legislation went into effect in October of 2010. Apparently this law was enacted to help close and discourage new, non-legitimate pill mills. Pharmacies have been warned to watch for suspicious prescriptions and not fill them. The entire state appears to be waging a war against narcotic prescriptions. Sadly what has happened is legitimate chronic pain patients are caught in this "fight" and are paying the price for those that apparently abused or still abuse the system. At least that is what one PCP told me...along with what I have read on MH and heard in the news.

You can't truly blame the physicians. Who wants to risk losing their licences when they spent years and many thousands of dollars working diligently to obtain them. In my opinion the primary blame lies with the abusers.

If you cannot afford a PMP you may never be able to find a PCP that will treat your pain. I wish I had a good answer for you....I am sorry that I don't. Are you able to return to your former state? It may be worth it to obtain proper pain management. .... regardless of the reason you relocated to FL.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you remedy your situation. I wish you the best of luck.

Take Care,
~Tuck
