shin pain

i have been suffering from shin pain for many years now, the doctors first thought it was due to my sporting time injuries and treated it as such with less success, as i am growing they think it is problems with blood circulation in the legs. It is hard to believe this since i do not have any other symptons from this BUT excruciating pain everyday. I still take long walks everyday, i drive less and eat healthy STILL the pain is getting worse, anyone out there who can break this down for me???please

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am very sorry to hear about your chronic pain. We can relate.

Circulatory disorders of the lower extremities can have multiple causes. I assume you have been diagnosed with PVD (peripheral vascular disease). You are doing the right things with exercise and eating and drinking health.

It is important to learn what is causing this condition. If is possible that other vessels could also be effected which would put you at greater risk for other health concerns.

Often loss of circulation can cause peripheral neuropathy which is actual the cause of your pain. Meaning that your nerves are effected negatively by the lack of oxygen rich blood. There are medications that can treat neuropathy. Please discuss this with you physician if you have not done so already.

There are also medications that may help with the blood supply. In my opinion you should not have have to suffer with untreated pain. So again discuss this with your physician. A neurology consult may be beneficial if you have not had one.

Please keep us updated. We will look forward to your posts. Best of luck to you and please take care.

Peace,
Tuck

These are some of the symptoms you can experience from poor circulation....

Some of the symptoms include:

* Claudication (this is a dull cramping pain in the calf muscle that comes on after walking a certain distance - it is relieved by rest).
* Numbness or tingling in the foot, or toes can occur.
* Changes in the color of the skin (it becomes more pale, bluish, or reddish).
* Changes in skin temperature (the foot becomes cooler. See cold feet).
* Skin breakdowns, infection and sores do not heal as well as they should.

If you feel like none of these are problems then it may be time to look for answers elsewhere.
Have you had any test done?
