PAIN IN elbow for 8 MONTHS

Hi all, I currently have this elbow pain that will not go away.  I first felt it when I was doing chin ups.  I thought the pain might have just been a sore muscle, so I continued to do it, even to the point when it was severely in pain (stupid of me, I know).    Now, 7 months later, it continues to hurt.  The pain is in the inside of the elbow, and feels like its where the funny bone is (ulnar nerve?).  So the pain will come back when I do chin ups again, and also when I throw something.  It'll hurt right before the point of forward acceleration.  Also, It'll hurt when i flex my bicep muscle.  Does anyone have a diagnosis?  I care more for knowing WHAT it is than the treatment.  THANKS SO MUCH!

You really need some x-rays and an MRI.  After 8 months of aggravating the initial injury, there is no telling what all is happening in that joint.  You could have ruptured a tendon, ligament or even damaged some cartilage.  Continuing the same activities that caused the injury for so long probably has some arthritis developing as well by now.

I'm not a doctor but I once was a weightlifter and gym rat in a former life.  I've had two rotator cuff surgeries and know whereof I speak regarding workout injuries.  No personal trainer I know would have allowed you to continue working out with that injury.  You can still do cardio and lower body and abdominal weight bearing exercises, but nothing that involves your arms.  Don't make a bad injury permanent by trying to ignore it.

Our bodies send pain signals to tell us that something is wrong, and yours is screaming at you for attention.  I see you are a young 20-year-old.  Permanent injury never seems possible at that age, but you're not indestructible.  So young man, listen to a woman almost old enough to be your grandmother: get yourself to the doctor PDQ!  :-)

I would like to welcome you the Pain Management forum.  As you already know we are a community of chronic pain patients.  I wish there were a doctor at least monitoring this forum but there is not.  But we do offer support, advice and friendship to other chronic pain patients.

As we are not doctors, I would hesitate to try to diagnose you.  Nerve entrapment is one possibility.  But it could be most anything.  You need to consult your doctor.

I'm sure a web search could shed some light on this.

Good luck to you

Is there swelling? It could be a number of things. You should really see a doctor. If there is swelling it could be bursitis. If it's bursitis and infected that could be bad. I'm not a doctor and don't want to say what I think it is because I have no idea. But my boyfriend has bursitis in his elbow and when it flares up it can really hurt. Try taking something like Advil and see if that helps. And if I were you I would not do chin ups, I would go see a doctor.
