Knee Pain

Hi all. I was doing some online searching for possible causes of my knee pain and stumbled on this site. I'm hoping someone might have some insight.

I received a cortisone injection a couple of weeks ago in my left heel for plantar faciitis. Since then, I've developed a somewhat sharp pain in my right knee making it somewhat hard to walk or bend. I've had no injury to my knee and never really had knee pain before. Is it possible that the pain I've developed is related to the cortisone injection? I'm paranoid of being considered a hypochondriac so I haven't called my dr for an appt. I'd hate to go in and him tell me it's just arthritis or think poorly of me but then the pain is also getting a little annoying. So far I've only tried Tylenol but I'll refill my prescription for the anti inflamatories and see if that helps. I'd appreciate any insight you can provide.

Hi bear6105,
I have suffered from similar knee pain for years after playing rugby all through school.
There is a fluid sac under the knee cap that can become inflamed and this is what caused my pain. About four months ago a friend introduced me to Mona Vie. Its an anti-inflammatory / anti-oxidant supplement and has helped greatly reduce the pain.
If you would like more info let me know.

Hi Bear,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum of MedHelp. You found it the exact way I did. I hope you will stay with us. I have found this site to be very informative and supportive. I am confident you will also.

Yes I have heard other ppl claim that cortisone injections have caused them more pain. I've had several in different sites. I have always had great luck with hip steroid injections but last spring the second one in my SI Joint did cause me more pain.

You should tell your physician that you are having more pain now. You should be comfortable him/her. Just be honest and explain your pain. I always add that I believe it was nothing they did. And I always tell my PCP how good she is, but that's because it is the truth.

Good luck and please let us know how you are doing. I'll look forward to hearing from you again. And as always, Take Care, Tuck

Hello bear and welcome to Med Help.

Unfortunalely there are no Doctors in the pain forum, just chronic pain sufferers like me. Sorry to hear of the knee pain, it can really interfere with your life.
It is very possible that the shot caused some of the discomfort you are having. I have heard of the Cortizone shots doing more harm than good and then others swear by them. You did the right thing in making an appt with your Doc. In my opinion, I would stay on the anti-inflammatorys. I have used a medication by the name of Relafan which is a step up from Naproxen or IB. You might consider using some heat or sit in a warm bath, it might help relax things.
I hope you resolve your issues quickly. Take care and good luck,
Mollyrae
