Thank you for your help we have been looking into it further turns out the stone is 15mm im going to have surgery early April
Thank you ill have to clarify with him. But a correction to the statement my family practitioner. Said with some suspicion that the hospital doctors said its not supposed to cause pain. He is quite convinced that i have passed small stones due to the fact that I have had dark urine on occasion. I remember walking through the hills of Budapest I was in a lot of pain the harder i hiked the worse it got. When the day was done i had dark urine then i felt perfect after this. My doctor and I are looking at this still but i think he wants to rule out the other factors before having me take actions to take care of this. I had been complaining about this for years but finally i told my doctor I wanted to tackle this now after 4 years of pain I've had enough. The pain is about one inch below my belly button and about 4 inches to the right. When pain is at its peak will spread to my back.
Thank you for all your info. Ive had enough of this pain it keeps me from being as active as i would like to be and I blame it for me gaining weight because if im exerting myself.
You have a kidney-stone "just above the pelvis", or do you mean that your stone is located just above the 'renal-pelvis'? It's a very important distinction, so if you could clarify, that would be great.
Welcome to the forum, by the way. I'm not a doctor but I have EXTENSIVE experience & knowledge of all things kidney-stone related.
A lot of doctors will tell you that a 'free-floating' kidney-stone, located inside the renal-pelvis, doesn't hurt or cause pain. I'll be the first person to tell you that those doctors are full of sh1t. A free-floating stone, is just as it sounds... free-floating inside the renal cavity. However, when that stone decides to bounce off the wall of the kidney, it causes excruciating pain and sometimes hematuria (blood in your urine). The pain presents exactly as you've described. On & off and radiating downwards. The medical term for the type of pain you're feeling is called "Renal Colic".
Don't let your doctor TELL you what you should and shouldn't be feeling. Doctors will always air on the side of caution and hesitate to prescribe pain-medication, but if you are in pain, there's no need for you to suffer. Pain is a personal thing, and if you are in pain and require medication, don't be afraid to ask your doctor to prescribe you something.
