Thanks everyone, you all are so sweet:)
I am feeling much better today. I have to see the Doc Monday for a follow up. I believe it was just that I haven't been able to keep anything down.
I had this happen once before years ago when my son who is 22 was only five and the same thing happened I was sick and ended up in the Er with low blood sugar.
I will have my Doc check to see if I should be on medications for it. I hope not.
I do need to eat better I only eat supper and never eat breakfast or lunch unless I have a lunch date or business.
Troubleinohio, try and eat more healthy and keep your blood sugar level:)
Sherry I bet your late husband was thrilled to have coke! I can't imagine giving up my Pepsi!
Thanks to you all:)
I'm sorry to hear that you've been so ill! But I'm very happy that you are on the road to recovery.
My Dear late Husband Jean, as you all know passed away from complications from Diabetes. Once when he was hospitalized they gave him the STANDARD dose of REGULAR insulin, something that we NEVER did as it was TOO much for his system, and they caused him to CRASH with his insulin reading winding up at THIRTY (30) and they Panicked!!! He was VERY happy as it was the first time in a LONG time that he was ORDERED to Drink Coke's and he even got to eat CHOCOLATE!!! Jean LOVED it and the Nurses about had a Heart Attack!! From that day on when he was hospitalized Our Doctor had it PERMANENTLY written into Jean's records that the Nurses were to check with me on how much insulin to give him!! Needless to say he didn't react as a NORMAL diabetic!
Hope you continue to improve!!..........Sherry
jaded- yes eating proteins does help regulate it. In fact you should try to regulate it that way rather than eating carbs/sugars because that only causes your sugar to SPIKE, then too much insulin is released by the pancreas and you end up crashing again later even worse. its a nasty teeter totter! I've been bad about eating lately too and have had some bad spells of crashing. I end up eating a "rescue" candy bar or something and keep repeating the cycle. So this thread has made me realize I need to start eating better again, thanks Sandee, =)
That happened to me once as well. I kept passing out and getting back up disoriented. I was actually staying in the hospital with my grandmother who was hospitalized and I was helping her to the bathroom at 3am when I passed out three times. Luckily it was a short walk to the nurses station and they wheeled me down.
My blood sugar had shot down to 40 as well. Since then I try to keep an eye on it. I have found that a lot of stress makes it drop more quickly. I remember how awful I felt that night, though. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. One of the nurses told me that eating protein would also help regulate my blood sugar. I try to eat more small meals throughout the day to keep it in check as well.
I homeschooled my son for one year in first grade. That was years ago. It's a lot of work and I have a whole new appreciation for teachers!
I'm glad you are feeling better!
Looks like quite a few of us have been sick lately and have had to take a trip to the ER. Glad your feeling better, I know exactly how you feel. Last week I felt a lot better when they IV me and gave me the water and a nausea/pain shot. I felt better pretty quickly until it wore off (of course) but I'm so glad your doing better.
hi
Sandee, glad all is well now with you...we don't need any extra problems do we.
I spent last sunday in the ER too, from a cat bite, need an antib....
have my grandson here for the summer and he is so sick too..cold/fever/diarrhea and terrible cough which maybe his asthma?...of course his inhaler rx has expired and can't see a doc until Monday...perhaps another trip to the Er today???.............God I hate that place. lol
take care girl, have a good w/e. my goodness your kids go back early, here in Canada my grandkids don't start until the 2nd.
summer goes by so fast, why doesn't winter?
HI Sandee. Happy that you're home and feeling a bit better. I didn't know that a virus can cause low blood sugar. Do you have to follow up with your PCP?
Hugs,
Flower
I'm sorry you have been ill. But Glad that you are feeling better.
My dad suffered from hypoglycemia. His glucose often ran between 50-70. His PCP ordered him a sugary afternoon snack and one before bed. Perked him up too! you might want to ask your PCP is you should do the same.
Be Well,
~Tuck
Im glad you went to the ER! Hope you feel back to yourself totally by tomorrow. I remember when my sugar crashed at 42 I believe the # was. I was at a medical clinic when it happened and they were FREAKING OUT about it and actually sent a patient out to their car to bring me candy bars and pop in to eat LOL. No one else had any sugar there so that lady saved me! It can be scary when your sugar crashes like that. Im hypogylcemic (Not diabetic, it just crashes). Now I always keep chewable glucose tablets in my purse and car just in case.
