My New Baby!!

Hello Friends:  As you know, my dear Mousey has apparently crossed the Rainbow Bridge.  I am still crying about it but I went to the Animal Shelter today and got a new baby.  His name is Smuttly, in remembrance of my all time favorite kitty Smutty Cat who lived 17 years before he crossed.  He's all black and fuzzy.  And he's so tiny, only 5 or 6 weeks.  He'll need a little special mothering.  Right up my alley!!

Here is his picture:  When I get him home Wednesday from the vet, I'll make a better one.  Isn't he adorable!!  I hope he helps me stop crying over Mousey.  He won't replace Mousey but will make his own little spot in my heart.

LOL!  I'm sorry, I have to laugh about your DH.  I've heard "NO" to two dog rescues but that only strengthened my resolve.  Now he keeps his mouth shut and waits to see what happens.  :-D

I say just do it!  You said you will give up mom-cat, so prove it to DH that you mean it.  Another big benefit to keeping mom for a while is discipline and behavior issues.  Kittens who are bottle fed can be terribly ill-tempered creatures as adults because they missed the routine discipline of the mother.  Mom cats do not put up with ANY shenannigns from their offspring.  When humans raise neonate kittens, they get showered with love and only love.  The kitten grows into a cat with a bad attitude which isn't good for either the cat or the humans.

I've personally witnessed the biting and scratching damage and attack behavior of orphaned kittens.  It's not a pretty sight and they aren't at all trustworth around children.  Pass that cat-factoid on to your DH and I'll bet he changes his tune!

Congratulations.  Your new kitten is adorable!  It's possible to get the kitten at 4 weeks.  My hubby got one from the humane society and he had to give it milk every two hours.  He was my everything cat, but now he is over the bridge.  I miss him so much.  Your kitten should be fine as long as you take place of being momma. :)  We have 4 cats now.

Well his eyes are still blue. Kittens usually get their eye color 5-8 weeks after their eyes open. Can you bottle feed him? If you foster the mom than you'll have to foster the other kitten. Usually people are fosters until they find them a home, not until they give them back to the shelter. I've never heard of that happening much less a shelter adopting a kitten that is not ready. Was this an actual shelter? If it is than that's horrible and scary.

If worse comes to worse, you could pick the kitten up in two weeks.

Remind him of how SAD you are over losing Mousey!!

Will they not let you nurse him?  I bet he is already drinking from a bowl!!

How in the world did they not realize this before?

If you foster the Mom then what would the TWIN SISTER do???? She' only 4 weeks old ALSO!!

Sara, you need to talk to the VET!!!! Go and see him TODAY!!!

I love you and I'm ROOTING for you....Mana Sherry

HELP!!  I just got a call from the vet.  This kitten is 4 weeks and should have never been taken away from his mom.  Now, I'm being asked to foster the mom for a couple of weeks.  DH won't go for this.  How can I make him see the light?????

He doesn't think I'll give up mommie cat.  I will.  I wouldn't want to but I will.  But would have the pound call before they would euthanize her.  Then I would take her and rehome her.  HELP!!  How do I talk DH into this??

Besides wanting to say he is very handsome I want to say thank you for adopting a cat from a shelter. Most people want shinny new animals from a breeder and forget that there are millions of animals waiting for a home trying to escape death row. People that save an animals life by adopting from a shelter are hero's in my eyes.

Thank you all!  I think he and I will get along famously.  Smitten (the other kitten) is 8 month old.  She'll be a little upset that she won't be able to come in my room for a while until Smuttly gets used to being here.  I will introduce him slowly.  He had a twin sister.  I would have loved to get them both.  But we have a Golden Retriever, Smitten and now Smuttly.  Between the shots every year, month flea and tick and heartworm medicine, this is all I can afford.  I won't get a pet unless I can afford to take care of him.correctly.

Again, thank you all.  It is possible that Mousey is still out there as they couldn't identify the other cat.  But Mousey was always with the white cat they found.  I'm sure It was he.  But I would welcome him home with open arms!!  I'd figure out how to afford 3  cats!  Actually, I do really think he's dead.
