Eye Doctor

Wish me luck at the eye doctor that they can figure out why my eyes are dilated.  Do you guys think I should take all my meds with me and let the dr. see them?

Karen,

You need to try taking one med at a time and see which one is causing this to happen.  Start with the meds that you DON'T think are causing it and then save the one that you think it is for last.

Please don't continue to drive until you get this taken care of. You could be hurt very badly or you could hurt someone else.  I'm so concerned for your safety! Please be careful!! Can you not get in to your Dr. and get the pills switched? Here in AZ they can call in Vicodin or Hydrocodone to the Pharmacy, can they do that in KS? Or do you need to take your remaining pills in to your Dr.? Here the only ones that they can't call in and have to have a paper script for are the Schedule II Narcotics.

I find it extremely disconcerting that your Psychiatrist has NEVER returned your calls!! I agree with everyone else and think you should be looking for a new Dr. That is absolutely unprofessional and totally unethical. I'm so very sorry that this has happened to you.

I'm so sorry that I haven't been here very much yesterday or today. I promise you that I will do my best to be here more. PLEASE take care of yourself and see if there is someone that you can call on to help you get things at the store or take you in to the Dr. to get your meds changed of they won't do it on the phone.

Please keep us updated with what is happening. Sending (((HUGS!!)))...Sherry

I notice that my eyes dilate after taking my medicines.  The pain doctor told me I could get off the tramadol, but that's the only pain reliever I'm taking right now, and that's not an option until I go back in and tell him to switch me back to vicodin.  I did see an opthomologist.  I'm starting to get concerned because it hasn't gone away, I can barely work, I work for Farmers Insurance and I work in claims and can't see my computer.  It's been so bad that I had to leave early on Wednesday and had to call in on Thursday because I just can't see.  I find when I'm driving I'm almost rear ending people, I think my near sided is off too.  It's been pretty scary.  But I totally  notice they dilate after all the medication.

I hope you're able to find some answers soon.  I know how I feel after being at the eye doctor and having my eyes dialated for a glaucoma screening (it runs in my family) - I can't even imagine having to walk around for days like that!  I do hope you're wearing sun glasses whenever you're out in the sun or even in brighter inside lights.

It may be a harmless reaction to one of your medications, but I wouldn't JUST settle for that "diagnosis" - especially since you mentioend that you had a headache as a result of the eye dialation.  In my opinion, if the dialation is causing headaches, it's not a "harmless" thing - something needs to be figured out and taken care of.

Just out of curiosity - have you noticed if they are dialated first thing in the morning BEFORE you take any of your meds?  If they're not, and only sttart to dialate after you've taken your meds, then I would definitely say that at least one of the meds is the cause.

Best of luck and keep us posted on how you're doing!

I'm sorry to hear they couldn't find the source of your eye trouble.  I agree with everyone else, talking to the pharmacist, endocrinologist, etc.  When I took tramadol, it reacted badly with the Paxil, worsening my anxiety and causing panic attacks.  When I looked it up it said that certain anti-depressants and tramadol can have bad interactions like those.  Another one is imitrex and paxil.  They gave me imitrex when I was hospitalized with migraines and was taking paxil.  My heart rate plunged to 33 bpm and my blood pressure went to 170/100.  My husband was freaking out and googled imitrex on his phone while the nurse had been putting it in my IV, so he told them right away. "Those meds interact!"  They ended up having to do a sonogram of my heart, and call in a Cardiologist, etc.  It didn't happen again the entire time I was there, so long as they didn't give me imitrex.

I really hope they get to the bottom of this, Sun!

I came back to your post looking for the results of your appointment. I couldn't beleive that they have no answers. You did see an opthamologist, right?

If he said it was not from a medication that I beleive him. However I would double check with my pharmacist. Ask him/her if a medication could be causing these eye issues.

How bad is your vision? Do you have pain?

I agree that you don't need this stress on top of everything else. My heart goes out to you. Hang in there. We're here for you!

I read that antidepressants can cause pupil dialation.  I hope you can figue this out.  I'd be nervous as you are.  I'm sorry you didn't get any answers with your appointment.  I agree it could be a result of taking the medications taken together.  There are some medications you can not mix with tramadol.  I honestly don't remember what they are, but they have really bad effects.  I would even take your meds into the pharmacy and ask them if your medications are safe to take together.

I called the pain dr. and he stated he didn't think it was the tramadol, and still have not heard back from  the psychiatrist (2 days now) I did call and yelled at the front desk person telling them that I think it's ridiculous that I can't get a call back, what if I was suicidal?  Would they even care enough to call me back?  So, I'm still unsure what's going on, I do have a thyroid issue and see an endocrinologist, but never thought of asking them.  So, I'll call tomorrow and see if they can shed any answers.  I'm glad at least my eyesight is 20/20 and there is nothing wrong with my corneas.  So, I'll just have to wait and see.

Karen: I'm really sorry you didn't get answers.  Not knowing what's wrong adds stress to an already over stressed body.  Hopefully, it's nothing serious and is something that is easily treated.

I just called the psychiatrist, and now I'm going to call my pain doctor and see what I can find out. At least there is nothing wrong with my eyes, besides the fact that I can't see!

Sorry you didn't get any answers to what is going on. Have you called your pain dr? Maybe he will have some answers for you. Just tell him that you have seen the eye dr and there is nothing wrong with your eyes. It is worth a try.
Hang in there

I just got back from the eye doctor and he has no idea why my eyes look like this.  He said he didn't think it was anything that I was taking, but it could possibly be an infection of my eye.  He told me to come back in a week and they'll do some more testing.  So, I have no idea what's wrong.

Most definitely take all your medications with you - if you can't take the actual bottles, at least take a list of all of them, including dosing instructions - but it's better if you take the bottles so the doctor can see them for himself.

Best of luck and let us know what you find out!

Yes please take all your medications with you. Your symptoms could be an interaction if several medications.

We will be waiting to hear how the appointment went and what he is able to conclude.

Good Luck to You,
~Tuck

Probably.  He will be able to tell you, maybe, which ones are dialating your eyes.  I don't think it would be a bad thing to bring them at all.
Good luck with your appointment!  I hope it goes great!
