Colonoscopy and Vicoden

Hello,
Next week I'm going in for a colonoscopy and the instructions I need to follow says that I'm not to take any asprin 7 days prior to the test. I take 1 vicoden pill in the morning for my arthritis, It's 7.5/750 the extra  strengh I guess. If I don't take the pill I can't get out of bed sand walk without severe pain. My question is this, what harm will I do to myself if I continue to take the 1 pill a day and then go for the colonoscopy.
Thank you.

Any fibro patients out there?  What kind of pain management do you all use?  I have been on norco for 2 years, 1 and 1/2  four to six times a day.  They just started me on durgesic patch about 3 months ago, in addition to the norco.  I don't want to take all of this mess.  I don't know what my options are.  I know my body is addicted to the norco.  Am I going to be on all of this forever?  Does this sound like a huge amount of meds for my fibro pain?  HELP!!

DO NOT take any medications before a procedure without clearing it with your Dr because they could interfere with the anesthesia.

Hey Motownguy,

I answered your PM. Sorry I was a bit late I had to do some work on "supper." Thanks for asking. It was wise of you to take the time to investigate the contents of your medication instead of guessing.

Best Regards,
Tuck

Hi. The Doctor does not want you to take the Asprin or Blood thinning drugs because of the risk of bleeding extensivly during the procedure. Like Tuck said, that can be dangerous especially if something goes wrong during the proceedure and they need to take action. Other medications should be fine but consult your Physician in regards to all medications you take before the actual Colonoscopy.
Good luck,

Hello Motownguy,

Check your bottle. If should say, Hydrocodone/APAP 7.75/750. Actual Vicodin contain acetaminophen (tylenol) not aspirin. But as I said check your bottle for for the abbreviation apap. If it does not sat that let me know what it does say and I will try to help you. Aspirin can cause bleeding, especially if taken for a long period of time at large doses. You do not want to go in for your scope under those circumstances. It can be life threatening.

You will be fine if it is acetaminophen. Good luck with your scope. Please keep us posted and let us know how you are doing. Take Care, Tuck
