OMG pain!!! help please?!?!?

Okay, so sometimes I get these horrible, intense, sharp, unbearable, unbelievable pains in my stomach. It's more to the top of my stomch, above my belly button. It feels like I'm having surgery and I can feel everything! Sometimes the pain gets SO bad that I throw up. There is nothing I can do to relieve it, no matter what position I lay in. Even though I want to cry I can't, because if I do, the pain intensifies even more and it gets hard to breathe. This pain can last to what feels like 20-30 minutes then goes away, but comes back after a miute or two. Every time this happens I know the pain be bad, but I don't know how many rounds it will go. It doesn't happen everyday, or even every other day, it happens sometimes once a month or twice a month. And it doesn't come during the day, or when I'm up and about, it comes when it is night time, when I am laying down or asleep. I don't know what to do about it and I don't know the cause of this.. I want it to stop, but I can't help prevent it if I don't know what it is...can anyone PLEASE help me with this problem???????

I recently had similar pain from Gastroenteritis, but this was after almost a full day of intense vomiting and diarrhea.

Hello,

I'm glad that you found us at the Pain Management Forum. Welcome.

Your symptoms sound fairly similar to esophageal spasms. Often, symptoms that may suggest an esophageal spasm are the result of another condition such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or achalasia, a problem with the nervous system in which the muscles of the esophagus and the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) don't work properly.

I have had esophageal spasms. They can last 15 minutes to several hours.Unfortunately mine is from both GERD and achalasia. The pain can become excruciating as you describe and has sent me to the ER. This condition is rare and it took an large city Internal Medicine Physician to diagnosis it.

You may not have this condition at all, it is just a thought. It is diagnosed clinically. There are other conditions that may be causing your symptoms. I suggest that you consult with your PCP, possibly a referral to a gastroenterologist and/or a endoscopic exam will provide more answers.

I am hopeful that you will soon feel better. Please let us know how you are doing. Best of luck and take care, Tuck

No, I haven't had any tests done, I really haven't even told anyone about my problem. And, I have never had any thing wrong with me, or surgeries done. I have lived a pretty healthy life..(?)

It could be IBS. Irritable bowel syndrome. I don't know though as that usually is pretty much a constant thing instead of coming and going. I am not to familiar with it. Have you had any test done? I am not sure what is causing so much pain but it is important to find out as it could be something that needs immediate attention.Have you had any injuries or surgeries?
