Pain in back right side of head

I am a 49 year old women who has been experiencing shooting pain in the back of my head. It has been going on for about 1-2 months. I can be sitting down and watching t.v. and I will reach back and grab my head when it happens. Why is this happening and is it serious?

Hi Roxie,

Welcome to MedHelp's Pain Management Community. I am glad that you found us and took the time to post.

Have you consulted your PCP? Have you been offered any diagnosis or had any imaging, scans or tests performed? That information would be helpful to those of us that are responding to your question.

If I had a sharp shooting pain in the back of my head I would be concerned. I suggest that you consult your PCP if you haven't already done so. We have lots of vessels in our brain and I would want to make sure that they are all healthy.

You might also want to have your cervical area examined. A structural issue of your cervical spine could account for your pain. There is no good reason to suffer with undiagnosed pain and I sincerely hope that you will have this investigated. Please be safe.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. I will look forward to hearing additional information...and to learn about your PCP opinion.

Best of Luck to You,
~Tuck

Hi roxie,

First I want to welcome you to the Pain Management Forum and let you know that we are glad you found this Forum. I want to let you know that there are NO Doctors on this Forum only CP - Chronic Pain - Patients that help each other with our OWN expertise and experiences that we have developed through our OWN CP Issues.

I'm terribly sorry that you are faced with this pain!  I have a question as I ALWAYS look at a persons profile before I answer a question to see if there is MORE information than has been given.  I noticed that you are VERY interested in Diabetes {I lost my Husband to that disease}.  The reason I ask you this is because I wonder IF you have it could this pain be related in ANYWAY to diabetes neuropathy.  My husband suffered a GREAT deal from that.

I  HOPE that you have consulted your Doctor about this and if you haven't you REALLY need to.  IF you have what did he have to say about it?

I look forward to your update as this could help us a great deal in our advice to you. :)

Good Luck.........Sherry
