Post knee replacement 24/7 intense pain.

by W4VFZ, Nov 05, 2009 11:22AM
After several years of constant pain, a different doctor found the my knee caps had been replaced with over-sized ones during the first (knee replacement) surgery, and they had ripped out the stitches in the muscle, causing the knee caps to rub against the ruptured muscle. A second doctor discovered the oversized knee cap, and replaced one. However, the pain in both knees continues, growing daily, and I can now hardly walk (must use walker) or stand. Doctor says he can do nothing more for me. I'm on Methodone and Valium, but they only take the edge off the pain. Have tried spinal nerve electric stimulation and every drug in the book, nothing helps. The pain is so severe that not only can I not easily walk, but I can't do normal functions due to degeneration of my mental abilities and memory. I wonder if there is a bodily fluid reaction with the titanium in the knee joints.

Hello Al,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. Please forgive my tardiness in responding to you post. I am so sorry to hear about your intense knee pain. It must be even worse knowing that it is due to a surgeon's incompetency.

The females in my family are prone to "bad knees" resulting in numerous knee replacement over the past 25 years. No one has had a reaction to the titanium. It is a very good material to use in surgical corrects/repairs. That's not to say that an individual would not react though I have never heard of it.

Many of us deal with the side effects of pain medications and I am sorry that you are experiencing impairment of your mental status. Sometimes time will help with help with your response as your body adjusts, sometimes that is not the case.

Hang in there. We are here to support you. Please let us know how you are doing. Best of luck to you and take care.

Tuck
