HOW DO I WORK THIS OUT WITH MY DR?

I think I screwed up with my Pain Dr. I have been with him for almost 4 yrs. and he writes for Vicodin, and i used to take Ambien and I am no longer allowed to. But i recently had a spinal fusion, and i was left without my medication for day then week to week after the surgery , insurance, or not getting hold of the doctors, or they called into the wrong pharmacy. ( It was a nightmare ) So a friend im me hour of need help me sleep though some of the pain with Ambien. But  then i got an unexpected appt sent up with my pain doctor and jumped all over it, not thinking about the dose of Ambien I took ,because it was around 3-4 prior anyway or i would have just told him on the spot but he seem rushed at this app.But I do NOT get Ambien perscriptions.

This is gonna be a big problem- you obtained a scheduled medication from someone not prescribed to you, have had repeated issues with the Vicodin being prescribed and seemingly had no Vicodin in your system.
I think you are going to find yourself dismissed and likely will find it difficult finding a new dr.
Were you also being prescribed Vicodin by the surgeon? It was the PM solely the only prescriber?

Ya, that is going to likely be a problem. Disclose it. That's the only thing you can do. Unfortunately, they may label you drug seeking because of it and discharge you. Hopefully not. But the second you took that pill from a friend, you broke any contract you had.  Oh, wait. This already happened and you did not disclose it. Could you call now before they tell you they found it? Your records will indicate they took ambien away. (what was there reasoning for that?) How long have you been under pain management?  How long is it post op?

You can express it like an honest mistake (which it was). Remember they are just trying to keep you safe from dependence or accidental overdose with all of their rules. But mistakes do happen. Is this a pain management doctor clinic you have been working with or a new one?
An ‘honest mistake’ isn’t exactly being honest- obtaining medication not prescribed to you is typically automatic dismissal- it’s also not a mistake- in the doctors view.
Pain management post op should have been discussed prior to surgery with a plan for which dr would prescribe initially and when PM would resume prescribing. Thats how it was handled after both my spine fusions.
The ambien was discontinued because of the opiates so getting it from someone isn’t exactly an honest mistake.
There are rules we all have to follow and if there is some issue - it’s our responsibility to ensure it’s taken care of .
