Pt changing meds needs price comparison

by sandee1818, Sep 30, 2008 03:53PM
I had someone ask .....
I am taking lorcet 10/650 and a long release med but I want to change my break thru to a med without the tylenol and that is around the same price or cheaper. I pay about 60 dollars for a months supply of 90. Any suggestions. I want to try oxycodone IR is it expensive?

I do not take this med so does anyone have any advice:)

Hi. When prices are involved, especially if the person uses a particular Pharmacy it would be in there best interest to contact the Pharm. for the price difference. All Pharmacys have different prices and are subject to change.

The price market widely varies on narcotics....

Thank you Mollyrae:)
I think she is wondering if the prices of oxycodone IR are comparable price wise to that of lorcet. Make sense?

I checked a couple of Pharmacys out and found that the Oxycodone IR are slightly cheaper than the Lorecet......So, it is possible that she will get a better deal with the Oxycodone and in my opinion it might work better. :-)

Thank you:)
I looked up some but got few results and they were not really great references so thanks for the info. I know she will be pleased as she is having some financial difficulties.
Thanks again

Hi all,

Here's my 2 cents worth. Oxycodone products, generally speaking runs a few cents more at most pharmacies than hydrocodone products. It is a slightly more expensive medication in WI. The generics are very comparable. It's when you purchase the "brand or trade name" that you see the real difference. Always ask for the generics. And when price checking don't ask for Vicodin or Loretab ask for hydrocodone.

And Jollyman the reason you experience better pain relief with oxycodone than hydrocodone (most ppl do) is because the oxy is considered a stronger narcotic than hydro.

Oxycodone is cheaper and better for you than variations of hydrocodone, b/c oxycodone does not contain any aceteminophen. Oxycodone is also a stronger opiod than hydro's. In some places you can only get oxycodone IR in 5mg tabs. However, you can get regular oxycodone in strenghts of 5,10,15,and 30 mg. They are all very reasonably priced, it's just that the strengths of 10-30mg are not IR so it will take a little bit longer to get pain relief....
