Something funny that happened with the pain doctor

I recently went to pick up my two prescriptions for fentanyl and the oxycodone on the 29th of October,  NOW that I'm on a pain contract.  After picking up the prescriptions I didn't look at it until I was getting ready to have them filled.  The fentanyl was right for 10 patches, but the oxycodone was for 10 mg pills 1 every six hours for the amount of 72.  He gave me that EXACT script the month before and I thought our goal was to get me to just have to have one script of each.  Well yesterday I had to call the doctor because the patches are starting to fall of on my shoulder and they recommended putting them on my legs?  Has anyone ever put them on their legs?  Anyone know somewhere where these won't  start to come off?  Anyway, I was talking to the nurse and just mentioned about the oxycoodone and about the 72 pills.  I asked her if I was supposed to take those until December 2nd when I go back.  It was kind of a funny moment, she told me that she just copied the script form the month before and didn't even think about it being a month supply.  So, she just told me to call her next week and she'll write me another script for 1 month and just mail it to me.  I really didn't know how to bring it up, but I guess now I'm glad that I did after all since it's such an easy fix.  I was just going to wait until December 2nd.  Anyway, I really think I have a great pain management doctor!  He definitely makes it easier for me to work with him.

Hope everyone else is having a pain free day!

When I used them I put them on my upper back/shoulder/lower back of neck area.  I found they stuck pretty well there but I did occasionally have problems with my hair getting stuck to them and they left marks where the adhesive was.  I think I may have been allergic to that specific adhesive.  I really only had a problem with them falling off in the shower or directly afterward.
Also, when I used birth control patches the recommended places to put them were around the hips/flank area.  With the fentanyl I was afraid to try the patch there because I read that the kind I used were supposed to be used on the upper torso.
I'm glad you have a good pain doc that you trust.  I hope you're able to find a solution to the patch issues.

I usually put them on my lower abs/ side hip/ or just below collar bone on breast area.  I find theses places work best.  Also you could get a Tagaderm adhesive patch and cut the center out so that when you put it on you are only sticking it around the edges of the patch as to not cover the patch fully.  This can cause increase in heat etc and can be dangerous.

I hope all the advise you are getting helps you out.

Hi Sweetie,  If they are STILL not working well put the PAPER TAPE around the edges and that will take care of it.

Karen - everything that I've heard has said DON'T use them below the waist.  SOOOO PLEASE  check with your Doctor OR Pharmacist FIRST before you do that.  I THINK it has something to do with overheating BUT I'm not sure.  Call me if you want to.  :)

I JUST noticed that you have your NAME Back!!!!  YAY!!!! I kept forgetting what the numbers were that were following it before.  LOL

Hi Karen:) When I had them, a good spot was just under my collar-bone.  Let me know how you do with them and where they work best for you, b/c I may be using them again after my next surgery (not even scheduled yet...waiting for some test results)...

Which patches are you using, the thick Gels or thin film?  My wife uses the thin film ones and rarely has any issue sans swimming and or sweating all day in which case she covers it with a waterproof Band Aid and has no problems.  She puts them or side just above the waist.  I've stuck them on my butt cheeks b4 w/no problems.  As far as your scrip, I would reiterate with the nurse that your discussion was document in your chart lest you have the chance of being screwd........
