They are two different narcotics.  Vicodin isn't as strong and also has acetominophen in it so make sure not to take Tylenol in any other form.  Oxycodone and OxyContin are essentially the same drug and have no Tylenol in them.  OxyContin is a time relealse and is usually taken twice a day.  Usuallymanother med is given for  breakthrough pain.  All of these drugs will case physical dependence and in some people can lead to addiction.

I am currently on both vicoden and oxycontin for back pain, leg pain.  I was just wondering after talking to my sister, what the difference is between both of them?  
My sister is taking oxycodene.  Not the same as me.  We were both wondering what is the diff between them.  
I guess I should know more about what I am taking.  I have been taking these for 2 yrs now.  I would be embarrassed to ask my Dr what it is I am taking NOW  - after being on them for 2 yrs.  Yikes!  ::blush::
