Now off dilaudid.how do I stop pain?

I am 65 and have many pain problems.  I have been on pain pills 20 years startinig with mild ones , until I ended up on dilaudid.  I was starting to wear that one out so my primary care dr told me to quit it. I am off it 17 days and think I am now on the downhill slide of the WD which were terrible.  OK so now what am I going to do for pain? Keeping in mind dilaudid is gram for gram 8x stronger than moraphine...I really don't want to use pain killers any more....but don't know what to do.  I started a chiropractor yesterday, but he could't give me a treatment because I am to "tight and fragile" so he just gave me a sort of massage to loosen me up and restart good blood flow.    Any other ideas.

Try Mona vie....it's pretty new but it seems to help and you dont need a doctor to get it....It does not kill the pain total but something about it really seems to help alot of people...Maybe it's in my head but it seems to really help get you normal faster when you are in w/d .It's worth atleast trying....Just google it and find someone in your area.

I was wondering if the Doc has tried something like a pain patch? There are different kinds that can keep the pain at bay. I use the Fentanyl patch but there are other kinds. i also have been on pain meds for many years and basically wore out many drugs. Finally I was put on the patch and I has helped. I don't feel high and at the end life of the patch I can tell my pain is great. This is how I know it works. Maybe this is an option for you. If your in pain you need something to take it away. Please don't just bare through it. That can make matters worse.

First I admire you for going through WD. Good job. I understand your PCP's concern but what now is a good question. Massage sounds like a good choice for you. Find a good masage therapist. Accupuncture works for some ppl. I know nothing about herbs but others do here and hopefully will respond with their suggestions. I have been told that some herbs/vitamins contain natural pain relievers.
I know you said that you didn't want to get back on pain meds but I have heard that once you've detoxed and had opiates out of your system for some time you can go back to the "weaker" pain meds. Apparently your body resets itself and will respond well to a lesser drug. Just a thought as I beleive life is too short to live with severe chronic pain.
Good luck to you and please keep us posted. Take Care, Tuck
