Weird question???

I had a hysterectomy almost three years ago.  I do have an obgyn and I've scheduled four appointments with her this year, and something always has come up, her delivering a baby, me waiting for two hours in the waiting room and having to leave for another doctor appointment, etc... Any of you fellow hyster sisters have this happen.  I had my hysterectomy against my will, I had a bleeding ovary and had to have an emergency hysterectomy.  I was a bad endometriosis, cysts, adhesions patients.  I have another appointment scheduled for July 13th because I'm having some strange symptoms that I've had for about the last six months.  I'm having pulling pain on my right side by my hip around to my back.  Almost like the time I had adhesions wrapped around to my colon.  And some days it causes me to grab my right lower side, its not appendicitis I know that for sure from the hernia.  I also have had this weird bleeding, which scares me a little, because of course I have no ovary's so I wanted to see what you guys think?  I know the logical thing is to make the dr. appointment which I will, I will sit there all day if I have to, but wondered what you guys think?

Hi Sweetie:  You do as your namnam says and keep that appointment!

As for the bleeding, I also bled after my hysterectomy.  Just once and no more but it scared the heck out of me!  But there just wasn't a problem so I forgot about it.

Your pain in the right sounds something like mine when I get a partial block.  Deep sharp hot pain accompanied by nausea and sometimes vomiting.  This does sound a bit personal but is everything normal with your bowel movements?  If only gas and liquid is passing, you may have a partial block.  Sometimes the pain is so severe I cannot talk through it.  It will double me over and can bring me to tears.  And I don't cry from pain very often or easily.

So good luck to you!  If you think you have a partial or complete block, go to a liquid diet immediately.  And don't let some idiot doctor talk you into taking fiber.  Big NONO.
Also if you suspect a block, partial or full, DO NOT take any laxatives.  I allowed an idiot doctor to talk me into that.   Never again!!!

Take care of yourself!

Been there done that.  There are a whole lot of doctors who insist that adhesions don't cause pain.  Right.  Try having your intestines and maybe reproductive organs, bladder, bile duct and spleen glued together in a mass of scar tissue and tell me that doesn't hurt.  They're only human, and we're all imperfect creatures, but honestly!  That closed attitude drives me nuts.  Dump the woman and move on to someone with a brain.

I'm an adhesions veteran, and while the symptoms have been similar over the years, they aren't always exactly the same.  It all depends on what structures are pulled out of place by the adhesions.

When we get into these situations of trying to find a diagnosis, we stuck on the merry-go-round of doing from specialist to specialist and never getting anywhere.  If you have a good primary care physician, it can be beneficial to start over back at the beginning.  Start with your PCP with a thorough medical history review.  A PCP is supposed to be the care organizer for these things and refer patients to appropriate specialists.  They aren't just there for sore throats and flu shots.  Worth a try anyway.

Your actually going to laugh at this.  The doctor that I saw for my hernia, I told her I was having this weird pain on my side and going down my groin and back and that I had adhesion pain before and she totally stated adhesions don't hurt.  Yeah, it really was said.  This was the same general surgeon that thought I had fibromyalgia and graciously found her partner to scope me and they found that I have a hernia.  And I trust her, how?  Running mom, I definitely know about kidney stones I've had four surgeries for stones, and it doesn't feel like that, its more of a pulling, uncomfortable pain that I had before when I was adhered to my colon.  I started bleeding three years after, so that concerns me a little but I'm hoping she can figure it out.

With your history of pelvic surgery on top of endometriosis, I'm betting you've got bowel adhesions again.  Forget about the ob/gyn and go see either a gastroenterologist or a general surgeon.  Have your records faxed to the new doc before hand.

I also eperienced weird bleeding about 6 months after my open hysterectomy.  It freaked me out!  It's a closed system in there after the hyst, so where's it coming from?  Turns out I had a tiny patch of vaginal endometriosis that was causing it.  It finally went away after several weeks.  Wish I could say the same for the adhesions.  :-\

That sounds really painful.  The first thing that comes to my mind is kidney stones.  They can cause bleeding and are extremely painful.  It the pain was under your rib, I'd say gallbladder.  Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!
