pain in my calf

This morning I had a really bad cramp in the calf of my left leg.
The pain lasted for about a minute I guess. I didn't time it.
I was too busy yelling out in pain. What might cause this ?
My calf is still tender. Hubby says to walk it out.
Any suggestions or explanations would be most appreciated.

Thank you for replying to my comments. My left leg is feeling a lot better
today. It was sore and tender all of yesterday. I mentioned that to another
friend of mine who actually suffered an attack on her calf recently.
She told me a doctor recommended using quinine. She takes it for about
three days in a row after a cramp in her calf. She says it really helps  a lot.
I'm thinking of buying some today. Make sure to check with your doctor
before taking any new supplement. Yes, the pain is horrible. I hope your
leg is feeling better today.  Eve
