Worried about all this talk

I am starting to really worry.....I keep seeing these posts from people who are taking pain meds...Then get a random test (urine) and fail...I assume that means that there is none in your system and you are selling them...

Are these people really selling ?

Are they doing them to fast and are running out early ?

I have run out early so when i go back in 7 days, if they test me then i would come up negetive...

I have run out early also but my doc never tests me.  The first time I had heard of being tested to make sure the drugs are in your system is when I came to this site.  I'm not saying that he won't later, I've been seeing him for a little over 4 years and he has never tested me to see if I am taking my pain meds.
I would guess in your case, when you see you are beginning to run out, call your doctor and be honest telling him/her that you've taken more than you should because your pain was unbearable and have them call you in a new script.
I have called my doc for a new script and he does it no problem but I hate to do it more than once a year, it just makes me feel like he will think I'm abusing my meds although some here will think that taking more than what the bottle says is abusing.

Yes you will. It takes appro. 3 days for the narcs. to leave your system. Coolio- Please do as the Dr. asks. It will be horrible if you are cut off from the only relief you get. Just think how hard it will be to find another Dr. who will treat you with a medical record stating your abusing your meds...................Mollyrae

Early on there was a time when I would run out and I was afraid to tell my doctor. But she is wise and asked me questions about my pain control. She said she was sorry that she was not allowing me enough or the right strength to contol my pain. She also asked me to tell her in the future when I was running out or trying to stretch my pain meds. I am extremly lucky to have a doc like her and because of that I encourge you to be honest with you doc. Maybe you should tell him/her that you are running out before it is time for a refill. I have never had a drug test (other than for a job) and reading all these "failed tests" have scared me a bit too. I plan on discussing it with my doc. Tuck

I agree with all, defenitly talk with your doc.
I'm sure it causes you so much anxiety when you run out because you have no more pain control until you see your doc. They may be very understanding and help you to find a better dose to control your pain so you wont have to run out early.
The more honest your able to be with your doc, the more understanding they usually are. And then you dont have to worry about getting a UA.
Of course all this talk about UA's coming up clean when they shouldnt is defenitly scary. But I just try to think that this doesnt happen all the time to everyone. Its upsetting for the people that have to go through something like that, but its not extreamly common to have a clean UA when you your taking pain meds.
So as long as you talk to your doc about having to take more when the pain is really bad and you figure out a solution so it doesnt happen you wont have to worry.
We all have enough to worry about every day, we dont need to add the fear of having a UA done.

Thanx everyone.....I called the office today and told the nurse that i had run out 5 days early....She asked if they were lost or stolen and i said no....and that it looked like i had taken 5 a day instead of 4 a day for a while.......I have just started with this doctor so i hope he will chalk it up to the dosage not right...This is the 1 st months worth he has given me the last time it was 2 weeks worth...and that worked out real close...

I have appointment at 11:30am tomorrow....I am hoping all will go well...I will be super honest.

Good luck, I got kicked out of Pain Management for coming up negative, but the funny thing was I was positive for the patches and I read the results, I was at predictive levels.  But I blanked on the percocets.  Funny thing though the percs were "as needed" so why did I get kicked out? I wasn't selling anything, I wouldn't know how to if I wanted to!  LOL.
Seriously good luck, if this is your first time they will warn you.

It's difficult when you are seeing a new doc and haven't had time to build the trust. I still would be honest and tell the doc the reason you took more was because you needed them. Hopefully your new medical provider will undertand you have pain and you will begin to build trust. Please keep us posted. The Best to You, Tuck

Sometimes the initial dose a new PM gives you is just a trial to see how it controls your pain. Sometimes they know they will probably have to raise it.
all docs are different but all of them appriciate honesty.

I cant believe extremski that you got terminatted for an as needed script!

The only time I come up short on my pain meds is after I have been on them for a long period of time.  I tell my doctor when I am having to take more than perscribed.
He will never call in a script of pain meds. I have to go in to see him before he will either up the dose or give a new med. I have never been drug tested either, even tho I know that is a possibility.  I had to sign a contract with him before he would even see me and I have to reread it every six months in his office, just a reminder they say. :)
I would not every sell my pain meds, I need the meds worse than I would need the money.

I think your DR's idea about having you reread the contract every 6months is great.
I wouldnt mind taking a look at my contract. I was in so much pain when I signed it I cant really remember exactly what my DR's said. I know the general rules but wonder sometimes if there is something more I've forgotten about!

Yeah I'm glad they did something for you.  Yeah I cant believe I got kicked out either, the cod Iwas seening left the practive and the other doc was terrible.  I was looking for another doc anyway I just hope that getting kicked out won't mess me up with the new doc.  The really stupid thing was for the past 3 months I told them that Iwas getting used to the dosage and I needed an adjustment.  They wouldn't listen.  Heck if I was selling them, they started me out on perc 10's and I was the one telling them that it was too strong and went to 7.5's, I would have stayed with the 10's?

Coolio I'm so gald they helped you out with something. They did seem to understand so thats good. Tramadol is pretty good for short term use. It doesnt work for everyone but may get you through for a short time. And it will defenotly keep you from withdrawls!
Sometimes its easier to cope if you know that you have the medication you wil need and can sill it in a week or so.
Let us know how your doing on it this week.

Extremski I wouldnt think that it should effects treatment from another doc if you explain it was an as needed script. Just let them know it was written that way so why would it have to come up?
Sometimes we defenitly see things as common sense and docs dont. Exactly what your saying, why would we ask for less if were selling our medication? It woudnt make sense. But I think because of how the PM's are regulated they cant afford to over look anything so everybody is at least some bit of suspect no matter what. Some are just really thougher and more strict than others. Maybe your doc had been investigated in the past and so is extra careful about things.
I like my PM alot. But she is really strict and defenitly keeps a close eye on all her patients.
Are you trying to find a new PM now?

Hey there,

Yep, there is alot of talk about false positive test results but then again there are false positive doctors as wel,.....I dont want to be scaring anyone,....I think I started off a topic about my own drug test results which were a false positive and even though I had been given strong pain meds IV in the emergency room and went to my own doctor a few days later to have my head wounds looked at for a possible infection and supposedly my blood was drawn (NOT)at that appointment and the test results showed "Opium"....and other prescribed drugs that were also opiates, the test is only "just so accurate"....and showed positive for "Opium"....The test was a false positive.  I went back in my own records and found that at no time during my past history for about 7 months had I had all the drugs that the test reported on "In my system at any one time with exception to xanax and hydrocodone.......Now here's the kicker to the story,...(drumroll please).......I went to my doctor last friday and confronted my doctor about this blood test and explained to her that after she told me about the results and "accused me of taking heroin" with my room mate as a witness to this event, right there with me in the exam room. That I went right after that and began exploring drug test results on the internet and found that even the most expensive test can and is about 80% accurate all of the time and that the remaining 20% can be inaccurate due to "lab error" or even a "drug admisitration error"....or is just flat out wrong......Then my doctor told me that my results were not from a blood test but from a urine test,.....(something is fishy here)......so I accused her of fudging my records in order to get me to stop coming to see her ( cuz I'm basically poor )...and i told her I was deeply offended at her accusation of my "taking heroin" to which she replied "I never said anything like that".....to which my room mate (who was there with me last friday ) spoke up and said "actually you did and you used the word "HEROIN"...and so my doctor tried to change the subject................Take this as you will,....there was alot more to the conversation with my doctor that I wont go into here cuz this is already a long entry.  Suffice it to say,...Most doctors are about "patient turnover" and "money", thats not saying that there arent good doctors out there, just none in my area.  Good luck Coolio

I too am glad it worked out for you. It sounds like your doc has a little human in her. I'm guessing that if you continue to be honest and open the trust will build and she will work with you. A week can seem like an eternity when you are in pain but hey it's already Sunday, only four more days. Take care and keep us posted. Tuck
