anyones advice would be great

i am going to a pain clinic, i went to the ER today because my regular doctor couldn't get me in and i have been vomiting, i have the chills, a cough, my body hurts all over, and i have a major migraine.  Well the doctor at the ER said i have bronchitis and strep throat and he gave me a cough medicine with narcotics in it and amoxicilin to take.  I went the WalMart to get it filled and about 20 mins after i got home my pain management clinic called.  i didn't answer it because i ran out of my pills a couple days early....and i know i shouldn't have but i did and i am afraid they are going to want to count them or something....i REALLY am sick i have a cough my throat is huge with blisters all over it....i am afraid of what they are going to say.... what should i do?  can i get in trouble for going to the doctor because i am sick?!?!  i think i'm going to quit going to the pain management clinic anyway if i can't go see a regular doctor when i am sick...but what do i do about the pain in my neck and back?  i am sick and confused and i have no friggn clue what to do....anyones advice would be truly appreciated....they took mris of my neck and back and said nothing at all came up...but i had xrays done and they showed curves in my upper and lower neck and 2 disc out in my back.... i just don't know what to do....or think....and i'm sick as a dog....

well i am feeling a whole lot better... thank you to everyone who prayed for me and gave me advice... i'm not totally better but i'm not as sick as i was on monday thank god :O)  i am going to talk to my pmp when i go back in december... i took my scripts to the pharmacy and they couldn't fill them because they didn't have enough but they gave me enough to get through til monday, which is when they said they would get their shipment in, so i am assuming that is a good thing and that my pmp hasn't dismissed me?  i would have thought i would have gotten a letter or something if something is wrong....but i am going to call them monday because they weren't in the office this week and tell them about going to the hospital and what the ER doctor prescribed me and everything.... so wish me luck that he will be understanding... i am honestly scared to tell him...but i was sick and coughing so much and so hard i was vomiting everything up...my body hurt...and my throat felt as if it was it was lined with gravel....if he doesn't understand i guess i will have to find another doctor because when someone is truly sick they should be able to seek medical help....no matter what....

Hi Kim,
I was reading our messages and was wondering if the current pain meds you're on are working? I too had small children when I first got my illness. My PMP had to adjust my meds for my lifestyle. PMP and clinics are there to to try and do everything they can for us to live a somewhat normal life.,,,,,ha ha whatever that may be. You may need to make an office visit and talk to him about what your meds do and don't do for you. Maybe your PMP needs to change some things around.
I hope you're Bronchitis goes away soon....it can be such a horrible cold!!!

Good luck,

I agree with Sandee....if the pharmacy will refill than absolutely go ahead, when you call/see your PMP give a full explanation.
I am glad you are beginning to feel better, the dx must have been a right one.
I had strep 30+ years ago and I can STILL recall how sick I was and how sore my throat was...it was the worst thing I have ever gone thr.
so take care rest as much as you can the antibiotics will continue to make you improve...

well, i dd try to call however they are out of the office this week... The machine said they were going to be in a different office until Monday so i left a msg my question is should i refill my script friday or should i wait to speak with them? i figure if there was a problem even though they were in a different office they would have called me again or sent me a letter, right?  i am still not feeling well...however the medicine has helped me to keep a little bit of food down... not much but a little bit....my throat feels like there is gravel in it and my body still hurts... still getting hot and cold...but i have alittle bit more energy... thanks to everyone who has cared so much and asked how i am and tried to give me advice.... i truly do appreciate it...

I am sorry your feeling so ill. I hope your feeling better.
Pain management doctors do not treat anything but your pain issues. Most require you to have a PCP to handle other problems such as when you get sick. You should be fine but I highly suggest that you call them ASAP and tell them that the doctor gave you medications that have a narcotic in them.
You will break the PM contract if you do not. Also even if you did not sign a contract the doctors require you to inform them if you obtain narcotics from another source besides your PM doctor.
Please do this right away. They will "fire" you, release you as a patient if you do not do this.
Please let us know how your doing okay:)

when your in PM your not allowed to accept a narcotic prescription from any other dr.

I would just try explain to your PM Dr.

Good Luck

All they gave me at the ER was amoxicilan and a cough syrup with a narcotic in it.... and the only reason he gave me that cough syrup is because i am coughing so much that i am vomiting and i can't keep anything down... i don't understand what going to the ER has to do with my pmp....i am not out on the streets looking for drugs... i did not go to another doctor looking for pain meds because i ran out i understand that it was my fault it was the first time and hopefully the last time that will ever happen... i don't want the drugs for a high i need them because i am in pain... i have went to chiropractors and everything else and all they did was make me hurt worse...i don't want to be on anything...but i do want to live life atleast some sort of one....

You have to tell you PM Dr. immediately.   They will adjust your next script depending on the meds you got at the ER.  Not telling them would result in intimidate discharge.

Most PM Dr.'s are V E R Y strict!

thank you all for caring so much....it really makes me feel good to know that there are ppl here i can talk to...because my family nor my boyfriend really understand... the doctor said that i have bronchitis, strep throat, and a touch of the flu because i hurt all over...even my elbows and knees but he said he didn't believe it was H1N1 and that was the main reason i went because i have a 2 year old and i know that H1N1 is killing young children and i was scared to death that he might get it.... i have been going to my pmp for 4 months and i get my refills come friday i ran out yesterday so i am 4 days short... i am not proud of this.... but i hurt...what else can i say?  i hurt more on days that i do more... but i have a 2 year old... i can't tell him that mommy can't take him outside because mommy will hurt later... i want to enjoy life and do things with him... i can't tell him i can't take him to a pool party because mommys back will hurt horribly later... he doesn't understand it... and even if it kills me later and i have to take that one extra pill.... i'll do it...for him... maybe i'm wrong...who knows...but my main thing is to be the best parent i can be which is why i went to the doctors in the first place because my pain was starting to interfere with living life....

Hello Kim and welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum.

I am so sorry that you are sick. As a memeber mentioned watch for H1N1 symptoms and follow up if you think you are not recovering as quickly as you normally would.

You did not say how quickly you ran out of your pain meds. If it is a day or two your PMP may be understanding of this especially given your illness. Chronic pain often becomes more intense when our bodies are fighting a virus or bacterial infection.

Some PMP are very strict, especially with newer patients. How long have you been seeing the PMP? Honesty is always the best policy regardless of the results. I agree that the narcotic in the cough syrup may have flagged a report to your PMP. Frankly I find this a bit ridiculous but unfortunately as you know there are ppl out there that abuse narcotics even in a cough syrup.

Whatever the reason for the call from your PMP you'll feel better if you return the call  today. It may be just an appointment adjustment.

MRI's are more definitive than an X-ray. The two should have been compared and a diagnosis should have been reached. If your current PMP does discharge you there are other PMP, once will take you. So just take it one day at a time and keep in touch with us. We are here to support you.

I hope you will soon be feeling better. We'll watch for your updates.

Take Care,
Tuck

I forgot to add that sometimes things happen and you might be in more pain that day then others. Doctors understand this in Chronic Pain Patients. So be calm...like I said, it's going to be alright. Just try and stick with the plan :)

Hello Kim:

Generally in these contracts, there are exceptions to the rule. If you are sick and require that you be seen that day...especially in an ER, you are entitled to receive any medication they wish you to have without penalties.

You are sick and need attention. Do Not be afraid. You ran out early this month...tell your Doctor. Be honest and up front and you will get the respect back from your Doctor.

It really bothers me when patients are so afraid to tell their Doctor that they ran out early that particular month. Once in a great while can be expected but never on a regular basis.

So answer your phone..talk with the Doctor or Nurse. You'll be alright.

please take care.

I know how you feel...I sometimes run out early too and get worried they will want to do a pill count..I have been going to the same PM Doc for over 5 years and they have never called me in to do a pill count....not once.  I had a tooth pulled and my mom got my script for pain pills filled because she has no idea about the pain contract...they haven't siad a word//that was 5 months ago...I would call them and tell them why you got it...how many days short are you?

I also go to a p.m. clinic the probable reason they called was the cough syrup if it is a narcotic it will show up on their computor when pharmacy runs it .I would call tomorrow to explain because it could breach your cintract with them.GOOD LUCK!
