at home best care

My boyfriend just fell from a ladder while power washing the house. He fell from approximately 15 ft. Both him and the ladder went down. He is badly swollen and bruised on his right, upper thigh amongst a few other bruises and friction burn. Anyone know of some home remedies to ease the pain and healing process. He doesn't want to go and get checked out.

Initially cold compresses and light circumferental wrapping with ACE bandage (before swelling). After 24 hours warm soaks. Limit activity for the first two days and use NSAIDS such as Ibuprufin. 400 mg the first day (the store tablets are 200 mg) eight hours apart. 400 mg is the prescription dose.  Next day 200 mg eight hours apart. If there was any significant neck flexure he needs to go to an ER for an x-ray.

HI, Thank you for replying to my post. He has been taking the ibuprofen and it seems to be helping. I will mention to him that he should decrease the dosage. As for the wrapping where the swelling immediately started, that will be a bit difficult as the only swelling that occurred was on his low butt check, upper thigh area. It is now all black and blue but he his walking around a bit with a slight limp. There doesn't seem to be any pain anywhere else. I would prefer to have him checked out at the ER but he is subborn and everything seems to be ok minus a little pain and swelling. Thanks again for your help and hope you have a great day.

Actually prescription ibuprofen comes in different dosages, including 600 and 800 mg.  However, a 15 foot fall is very significant and he needs to be checked by a doctor to make sure there's no internal damage. Things don't always show right away.  They'll also be able to give him better pain medication if necessary.

Why doesn't he want to go to the ER?  If it's a question of insurance, they have free care or the homeowner's insurance may cover it (though I wouldn't necessarily go through my homeowner's as your rates may go up.)
