My advice is to skip the dose. Your dentist should have told you/ask you about any medications you take and what you should/should not take. You could call your pharmacist but he/she will tell you the same thing, skip the dose and if it is okay to take then you can take then. Just take it with you and if the Dr says you can take it then go ahead. You will be two hours behind schedule but this is better than risking your health and life. Over the next few days after the procedure just take your medications on a 12 hour schedule or 8 how ever your doctor has prescibed them.
Also an IMPORTANT thing to remember, If the dentist gives you a script for pain DO NOT fill it without first checking with your PM doctor as there have been MANY who have lost their PM doctor this way. It violates the pain contract and the understanding that you will only get pain meds from your PM doctor.
Hi:
I fear that the Nitrous Oxide could interfere with your procedure. It will add to the effect of the Oxycontin. Like the others have said, please inform your Dentist of your medications before taking them. Better safe than sorry.
Molly
I also take Oxycontin. I will tell you from experience that you SHOULD NOT take Oxycontin before a procedure even if you are going to get a Local.
I have been told not to take it before any procedures in the past by my doctors and also been told not to take it for 24 hrs. after the procedure.
I have been allowed to take Pecocet prior to procedures instead of the Oxycontin. It is because of the time release issue. I don't know if Percocet is an option for you.
Please make sure you check with your doctor before your procedure. I wouldn't even trust someone in the dentist's office. They are known for making mistakes when in comes to medication. That has been my experience at least.
Better to be safe.
No I am not being put under just a local...
and the reason I don't have the opportunity to ask is I take meds at 7a.m. and appointment is at 9 ....I 'duh' guess I could phone receptionist.
do not want to take later in morning or miss dose as it upsets my whole routine for days
Hi opus, once again I'm no doctor so you should really ask a doctor, or your dentist about it. If they're putting you under there COULD be issues, but I can't say for sure.
We try to give the best answers we can, but for something like this make sure to ask your health professional.
