It sounds like you have really irritated it. In my opinion, I would apply some ice to the area for at least an hour. Do not use heat, it will only make the inflammation worse.
Try not to bother the area anymore than you have to.
If it is not better in a couple of days then I would have it looked at.
Please take care.

Hello MrBrown,
Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am glad that you found us. I am sorry to hear about your swollen lip.
Be cautious that you do not have a cellulitis beginning and/or infection. I suggest you clean the area well several times a day and apply an ATB ointment. Please consult with your local pharmacist as they can best recommend what type of ointment will work best for you. The pharmacist can also suggest if you should use heat or ice to the area. I personally would think heat will be better but much depends on what you have going on in the area.
When you smoke avoid that side of your mouth, better yet try not to smoke.
If the area on redness increases to any degree and/or becomes hot to touch or you run a fever consult with your PCP asap. All kinds of bacteria live in this area and are just looking for a good breeding spot.
Please let us know how you are doing and don't ignore your symptoms. Good luck and take care, Tuck
