I have no idea how your doctors will use this information, but they will not prescribe a medication that requires a specific CYP450 enzyme if you don't make the enzyme required to metabolize that particular medication.
Talk this over with your doctor -- he/she can tell you which medications are appropriate, and you can make an informed choice on which, if any, to use for pain cotonl.
Doctors don't use this test to determine if someone can metabolize a certain drug or not. They simple ask the patient if they are allergic to anything.
Now with all the new laws on pain medication, I don't see your doctor giving you strong medication weather you metabolize them quickly or not.
Now I am also a fast metabolizer, however, mine is also food. I burn the calories up quickly.
I am assuming you have tried other options for pain control?
Thank you for the information.
I hope this does not mean I'm going to have to take stronger medications. I do hope, however that I can finally get control of this pain so I can function.
These tests are given to determine the appropriateness of certain medications. For instance if you cannot metabolise oxycodone, then the doc knows not to use this medication for treatment and instead instead to use perhaps morphine.
