nitrous oxide

Hello,
This is my first post and look at this blog, so please forgive me if this has been addressed previously.  My89-year-old father just endured a series of excruciating catheterization procedures (he also has an infection) with no pain med.  Nitrous oxide is a great tool for dental procedures; why can't it be used more widely?   It seems that Great Britain uses it more; why do U.S. doctors continue to ignore the suffering of their patients?

Hi, Thanks for getting back to me and for the info, which I didn't know.  You've given me another avenue to investigate, so thanks again. I'd like to put this question out to hospitals, doctors, insurance co, and anyone else involved in patient care.  Something I haven't looked into was a brief ref to Demi Moore using NO at home- - sound familiar?

A good question. For a while in the late 1970's many U.S.  paramedic ambulances carried nitrous oxide on the rigs.
